I am embarrassed for TM for even saying how bad my 3-pw custom order specs were. I ordered 1* flat, STD loft. the 8-pw lofts were good, but they were std lie to .5* upright. the 4 -7 were 1* upright ( so, 2* upright than I ordered) and 2* weak from tm std, the 3 iron was ridiculous!! it was 2* upright and 5* weak!!!

the 790udi 2 iron, also ordered at 1* flat, was std le and 2 weak.

Hmmmm, that’s so strange, I just received my custom order on Monday and had the lofts and lie checked at Carl’s yesterday and to my surprise, everything was spot on!

I hit these today. I really liked them. They look really good in person. Nice compact shape. Loving the pre worn leading edge like Titleist. They feel much better than my TMB. These may be the top of my list this spring.

These definitely look way better in person. I think they are great looking irons! I wonder if they will beat out the AP2s or the 785s.

  • 2 weeks later...

Anyone else notice that Adam Long is playing the p760s? Saw it during that unreal shot he hit on 18 to set up the birdie putt.

They looked like 760’s but I’m not 100% sure.

Found a pic from the final round and posted in my last post. Confirmed!

They’re def real solid if you ask me. I might be adding them to the bag this spring.

First Tour win for the 760s. What an incredible approach shot he hit into 18. Was pulling for Phil, but happy to see Adam finish off the win after a shot like that. Wow.

I noticed as soon as he hit that shot on 18, got a good look.

What an amazing golf shot.

It sure was! Big win for TM for sure, since I know the 760s took some serious heat when they first were spotted.

I'll be curious for longer term reviews this year from users. My P790's were awesome but they randomly would hit low spin bombs for no reason at times it seemed. I think it was strikes a little higher on the face... Took off like rocket ships. I'm not even talking flier lies... just straight up normal tee shots and sometimes off the fairway.

My standard yardage for the p790 8i was around 160 carry. I'll never forget last season, playing to a par 3 flag 155 away, wind in my face. Figured I'd take a controlled swing to take a little spin off and get it on the front of the green. Must have been the best swing of my life because I actually hit it about 175 in the air....over an OB fence into somebody's back porch. Thankfully didn't break anything.

That shot and a few others were the main reasons I'm in "old school" forged CBs this year. Now my 8i only goes about 148... but it goes 148 all the time. It was nice to be able to launch a 7i 180 if I had to, but seeing my 6i spin around 4800 on the monitor was a little scary. Flew through wind really well but just a little unpredictable. I'm guessing if a guy on tour is gaming them they must be good. Same with the new Apex Pro.

That’ll be pretty cool to see. Did you by chance listen to #teamtaylormade podcast today with him on it? He was talking about how he switched between the 750 and 730s and then back to the 750s last year. I didn’t realize he gamed the 730s. I thought he only played the 750s

^ a FULL bag of them?/ a 3i and maybe 4i I could see...but dang if he goes full bag that would be pretty cool to see.

I'm not sure. It could just be long irons, which would be cool, but far less exciting than a full bag. It sounds like he'll have something in the bag, at least. I'll be honest, I assumed full bag at first, but now that I've thought about it a bit, I'm not so sure on that.

I did listen to it. I knew he had switched to the 730s briefly around the Masters, but I hadn't heard the complete rationale behind it. I think all I heard at the time was that the 730 was easier to flight down for him.

Any word if there’s a new UDI coming this year to replace the 790 or gapr lo?

I had the same issue with the 790's and every other hollow design. So far with the 760's I haven't seen that yet. The good thing about the 760's is they are already a combo set with the 8-PW being almost blade-like.

That's good to hear. With the foam though, still concerns about accidentally pumping a 5i or a 4i though. I really wish I could get these Miura's on GCQ. Trackman is telling me I'm spinning the 7i a 7.6k and the 6i around 6400. The 760's were only spinning around 5k on a 6i... which at the peak height and descent angle I was seeing was fine, but I do worry what happens out of the rough. The Miura's seem to do really well out of the rough, probably because they spin like tops as is.

I do miss that explosive p760 distance though. Easily lost a club of distance.

JDay confirmed the P760 switch in the presser today. Funny because who will ever forget all the negativity around the infamous Instagram video with JDay having “concerns” about the leading edge. Have a look at the pics in his WITB thread. Day’s 760s have had quite a lot of work done, including grinding the leading and trailing edges.

There was a lot of silly negativity from that IG video, but it turns out that some of it was apparently accurate. I didn’t expect to see Day in 760, but now it makes sense with the work he’s had done on them within the context of his comments on his iron play last year.
