PGA Junior League Costs and Benefits

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

We are hearing some news about changes to our PGA Junior League costs for the year at our local club so I wanted to get some data from around the country on other leagues. What does your league fee run and what all do you get for that (number of practices, number of matches, gear, any other perks)? Really appreciate it everyone!

I think ours was $175 (may have bee $225. I don't remember squat anymore). We got 6 matches, 2 practice matches, two crappy shirts (they were horrible), a crappy hat that was never worn, and a free tournament from our local junior golf foundation. That was it. I have been to clubs and have seen them as high as $450.00 for a season.

I am GenX.  If you really think I care about what you have to say, I don't.

Ours was $175 before and we got 8 matches, 14 group practices, and the little swag bag of uniform, shirt and hat. I considered that a great deal. However, they are now talking of lumping in as part of this big "developmental" program and charging something like $175 a month for 6 months with group lessons and Jr. League being the foundation...

I thought the swag bag was cheap. I am in the textile industry and the printing on the shirts was just lousy. I would have fired one of my employees if that was the product they were putting out.

We have a great Junior Foundation in our town.

They do snag golf in the elementary schools.

They have 4 days of programs for beginning to intermediate golf golfers at local golf facilities spread throughout the community. These run on a weekly basis in conjunction with the semesters of school.

They try to run a 1 day tournament every month. Hard to do during season. They will run a scramble for the beginning and younger kids. For intermediate and more advanced they hold stroke play, 4-ball, match play, team play.

They don't do a good job with the elite/advancing player, but they know it.

PGA Jr. League is great for what it is. Depending on the amount of group lessons involved would determine if the $175.00 a month was worth it.

$290 per Child

- 5 free buckets of balls

- 6 group team practices

- 5 Games

- Each participant will receive 3 jerseys. 2 of those will be practice jersey’s and one will be a game jersey. They will also get a tee shirt, a hat, bag tag and sling-back bag.

- End of season Pizza party

Its expensive, but my Kids really enjoy it. Overall its been a great experience. We'll do it again this year.

Thanks guys, I really appreciate the responses. This whole move was sprung on us in the last few weeks and several of us are questioning whether or not this is the right course of action for the league, particularly in reference to younger and more beginning players so this will be valuable as we talk to the pros about our concerns with Jr. League being completely tied to this new program.

Sounds like they are trying to prop up an unsuccessful junior golf program with the more popular PGAJL.

I would not call it unsuccessful yet as this is a new deal but I definitely agree there is an inherent bait and switch tactic going on which I am not happy about. Thankfully, they are now coming back with some modifications and differing plans.
