I was recently listening to a podcast on Instagram where Kevin Kisner was being interview and apparently the 5th hole at Augusta has been lengthened to 495 yards. Is that true because I haven't heard or read anything about that.

Very true. Has been discussed and in the media for some time.

It's going to make one of the toughest holes on the course already just absolutely brutal!

Interested to see how it plays out come April...79 days to go.

I heard the new name was flowering golden colicroot ....native species of course.

Supposedly adding 19 mega hardwood trees and 13 hardwood trees as well as 7 mega pine trees.

All I can picture with “mega” is maybe they are digging up old growth forests somewhere to replant on site. If so why not replace the Eisenhower tree? Me thinks it wasn’t a natural storm that took it down. Contrails seeding clouds by Augusta national ?

There's a contemporary overhead shot available on Google Maps. Looks like they stuffed a tee right behind the 4th green. They didn't go across Old Berckmans Road as originally speculated.

That's weird as one of the articles stated the reasoning was to alleviate congestion between 4th green and 5th tee. What could the rationale be for lengthening the hole as it ranked relatively difficult?

Are they adjusting the green at all? Seems like the green would be very difficult with an extra 30 yards on the approach.

I really like the hole and it was a testing par 4. They get it right at ANGC so I'm sure it will be good.

I just found it interesting that they decided to lengthen the hole because traditionally it's one of the top 5 toughest holes on the course. I think the course is perfect the way it is, but if I were to change the course, I would do one thing. I'd shorten the 7th hole so that players can hit more wedges into the green, maybe even make it drivable one of the days. I think it would be interesting to see if players would take on that hole at 350 given the severe bunkering around the green.

That tee has been there for years. It's the current pre-2019 tournament tee that plays at 455 yards. The forward tee shown plays at 400 yards. The tee in the picture you provided does not alleviate the congestion issue behind the 4th green and 5th tee. Your picture is not current. Picture below from 2014.

Just happened to come across the below what looks like a 360 drone picture in the park beside Augusta National. You can see they had the whole 5th hole torn up when that was taken in July 18.

Interesting the work they have done on the bit of land they bought from Augusta Country Club behind 12th Green / 13th Tee, an unusual looking tree left there all on its own, almost like the 13th tee could go back there some day!

They either change equipment standards or the 13th tee will be back there someday.

Interesting that the new 10th hole at Augusta Country Club was under construction.

I remember #7 when it was 360.

Nice find. Are they adding a bunker in front of 11 green?

Jesus they do a lot of work every year.
