Do you like red putters? Why is red suddenly popular?

Looking at the Odyssey O Works 7s and Taylor Made Ardmore 3 TP Red, red seems to be growing on me. Why is red so popular? Is there a science behind this?

 

Why not navy blue, purple or other colors?

Ultimate contrast from the green of the grass, that's why so there is science behind it, I have a spider arc I really like in red.

I like the contrast between the red and green, but do kind of feel like it’s a fad that’s just about to die out. As much as I like it, I was also surprised by how much I’m looking forward to the more straightforward look of the new Stroke Labs.

I don't think the Red started as a science experiment. If I recall correctly, Jason Day wanted his matte black TM spider putter in a Red color to match Ohio State Scarlet school color, once he had it he put it in play right away. It expanded from there.

The inserts are different depending on the model as well. Soft vs Hard.

Actually, there is quite a lot of science and human behaviour behind colour use. Black is the ultimate power colour. That is why black (and variations of black) will always outsell any other colour. This is changing slightly in the millennial world, but black still is king.

Not a fan of red putters, myself. I like putters that are subtle with no reflection or sheen to give any sort of glare.

I don't like the red putters, but I will say I putted with a red Taylormade spider tour in store and it was great. Now, that they have a black and silver option, I may retire the scotty and pick one up.

Yes, had my Odyssey #7 SG painted red with white paint fill on top, no paint fill on the bottom by Continental Golf. I like the contrast and it was like getting a new putter for $75 (paint and shipping to & from) It is a personal choice, sort of like golf bag, glove, headcover colors. Some you like, some you don't.

A few years back we had the ghosted white faze, now it's murdered out and red. Folks want to copy what the pro's do because it will make them feel cool. Grandma always said "if it was the style to wear dogsh..on your head there would be people doing it"

Yep, they stand out on TV and folks want the putters the pros use.

I didn't think much of it when they came out. Now I really like it. I like the Odyssey red better than TM.

Nike released a putter line a few years back where the putters were a green colour. To make the putter blend into surroundings so the alignment cues were more on display visually. IIRC, there was quite a bit of science behind the concept

Big fad by the manufacturers got the Pros playing them and everyone had to have one. Mission accomplished increased sales.

I didn't realize putter manufacturers liked Christmas that much. Seriously, no way for me - looks cheap and just an eyesore to look at. Red is the colour the eye gets attracted to easiest (think stop signs, traffic lights, NO, X etc). If your brain is processing that colour, where is the attention on the putt? Matte black has nothing to attract so you will focus on the whole picture more.

They’ve grown on me some. There is definitely something to the contrast that it creates. I’ve rolled both a Red-White Ardmore and a V-Line Fang CH and while both are very similar in design, the Ardmore was still slightly easier to aim. I just HATE the pisspoor quality of the TaylorMade paint jobs. Charging what they do for those putters with such abysmal quality takes some real audacity.

100% marketing. When there were only 1-2 OEMs doing it, it helped them stand out on the putting rack in the store. Now, everyone has it and its gross looking IMO.

My older Odyssey O-Works two-ball Fang was replaced by the company because the face insert was peeling off. The old one was a matte blue, the new one is matte red. Performs the same, and I really don't care what color the darn things are.
