Omaha Golf Memberships

QMany

Recommended Posts

Quite possibly moving to Omaha within the next 6 months, so I've started doing some homework. For those more familiar with the area and club options, I would really appreciate your input.

BACKGROUND: I'm 32, my wife is 29; so I'm looking at Junior Memberships where available. I practice a lot, as much as time allows. I only play ~ 18 holes per week. I currently compete in most of the big amateur events in Kansas/KC and plan to do the same in Nebraska. If I live close, I would use a fitness facility. My wife would use the pool amenities. We would probably never eat at the club.

We're looking to live out in Western Omaha, likely somewhere west of 132nd between Maple & Q, but that isn't set in stone.

Omaha CC : $10,000 initiation, $530 monthly dues, $1,000 annual F&B minimum. Farthest from where we'd likely live. USGA Championship quality course. Winter hitting facility.

Shadow Ridge : Only club with no Junior Membership option, so $10,000 initiation, $470 monthly dues, $840 annual F&B minimum, $1,135 annual additional dues. Probably the best location. Arguably the best practice facility around. Quality course. Nice pool and fitness center. Bunker renovation (design and materials).

Champions Run : $3,500 initiation ($5,000 after March), $485 monthly dues, no F&B minimum, $595 annual additional dues. Quality course, longtime Web.com event host. Decent practice facility, but nothing grand.

Oak Hills : $3,000 initiation, $315 monthly dues, unknown F&B minimum and annual additional dues. Probably the worst course of the lot. Wife grew up here and likes the neighborhood.

Players Club : Haven't received membership information yet, but I've heard similar to Oak Hills. Quality course, similar to Champions Run, neighborhood layout. 27 holes. Probably the worst practice facility of the lot. Number of quality players/competitive ams.

I'm not sure if any of those initiations are negotiable. I've only played Shadow Ridge, did walk OCC during the 2013 US Senior Open.

I wish Indian Creek (public) had some sort of membership option.

I'd really appreciate your input! Thank you!

Well enjoy getting a lot for your money in Omaha. Many wished their options were that reasonable. Never played there but I know a couple guys from the Outpost Club that have played in the Omaha CC event and they were very impressed. They said OCC is very underrated and many of these guys have played 50 or more top 100 layouts so a pretty big endorsement IMO. Don't know or heard of any of the others however sorry. Something else to note is when do you have to convert to regular membership and at what additional cost to the initiation? Usually it is 40 years old.

I played Omaha CC two years ago and I thought it was very good.

Good facilities, cool locker room/grill combination in the basement, really good golf course.

I would join there and not look back for a second.

I lived there in the 1960’s and have 4 distinct memories.

1) The odor of bovines

2) The tornado that carried away our neighbors chicken coop

3) The blizzard the left a snow drift that reached the apex of the roof of the brick ranch across the street (no joke).

4) My dad turning down the opportunity to start some new restaurant called Kentucky Fried Chicken. Probably won’t sell in a beef town. God did not like chickens anyway, see No. 2.

Hope this helps your decision.

I finally received membership information from Players Club, and I'm shocked how affordable it is:

Players Club : Junior golf membership (under 35) = $4,000 initiation ($2,000 up front, $1,000 in subsequent years), $220/month single golf dues ($300 for family), approximately $1,000 annually range/facility/locker, no F&B. Quality course, similar to Champions Run, neighborhood layout. 27 holes. Probably the worst practice facility of the lot. Number of quality players/competitive ams.

Has anyone had a chance to play Shadow Ridge, Champions Run, or Players Club enough to opine about their normal conditions? THANKS!

I ended up joining Shadow Ridge as a Social Member; I wanted to be able to use their premier practice facilities. Unfortunately, they completely lost the turf on the range; I've never seen anything like it. We've been on mats since July 20ish and I don't see that changing this season.

Indian Creek is a great 27-hole public layout with incredible conditioning. That, coupled with how many competitions I play at other Nebraska courses, it will be hard for me to return to Shadow Ridge next season. If I go decide to go anywhere private, I'd guess it would be Players Club.

have you played oak hills? I know you thought it was the worst of the bunch, but back 9 went thru major renovation and reopened Last June. 6 new greens and water rerouted. You should give it a second look. I love the place. if we didn't have the interstate to deal with on most of the front 9 it would be a whole different course. (you get used to the noise). I've played every course private and public in town multiple times and only put OCC above it. Dan Maddox is the best grounds keeper in the State and our conditions are great despite too many Monday events and rounds played. Your handicap does travel well if you are a member of oak hills. we have trouble on both sides of almost every hole and you can't just bomb away and go find your ball. Greens are tarped every winter and run as good or better than anywhere else. I've been there since 09. great practice facility (second only to shadow I would say). Unfortunately we are down to like 2 memberships left as we gained a bunch lately from the disaster at Shadow and the renovations attracted a crowd last year. I liked it when we have about 100 less members. There is a junior membership. No club has as much fun as we do. Layed back and not stuffy at all......

just my 2 cents.

Thanks for the insight. My wife grew up on Oak Hills and loved it. I actually would be interested, but we're building a home about 187th and Maple. Coupled with working in Regency, it probably just doesn't make the most logistical sense unfortunately.

Curious, does anyone know anything about Stone Creek's $1600 All-Access Pass? I presume it includes unlimited golf, cart, and range. But it doesn't exactly say on the website.

I played there last month in a two-man 27-hole event and the course was in good shape. I'm just exploring my options for next season. I'm sure it will include a lot of rounds at Indian Creek (PURE).

Agreed much better course than Shadow and they charge extra $600 on top of social membership…rip off
