Which brand of wedges do you recommend and why

Went to custom order Mizuno T7 wedges and they are no longer available and don’t care for their larger gi type s18 wedge. I will be matching my iron shaft so really just concerned about the heads. Priority would be consistency playability grind and feel. Do tell.

Edel, because you can get a fully customized wedge for less than 20% more of the cost of an off-the-rack Vokey.

Agree with Edel, are really good - I love mine due to the fact I can have loads of bounce on them :)

Cleveland's for me.

I like the head shape and for some reason I found them a club longer per loft than vokeys. No idea why.

Taylormade milled grinds and I play mizzys mp15 so there you have it lol , the t7 feels good but I'm not sure why I didn't love them like I do my milled grind

Big fan of Callaway wedges since Rodger Cleveland moved over to Callaway. Head shape and feel is ideal for me.

I've always been a Ping wedge player. The Glide 2.0 Stealth is outstanding. That said, the Glide forged is the best looking, best feeling wedge I've ever tried. Pricey, but awesome.

I think that most mid-high hcp players couldn’t distinguish between the major brands. I also think that wedges 10+ years old, which can be had for $20ish, are just as effective as today’s $100+ wedges.

Vokeys aside from the fact they are they are consistent. You know what you are getting, other OEM wedges change from season to season different design, names you cant keep etc. I dont have the time nor patience to keep up with the constant wedge changes,

Preferred headshape in wedges is extremely personal in my opinion. I'd suggest you go to a store and look which head you like best and custom order those with the shaft of you choice.

Any new wedges from reputable brands from previous seasons can be had for dirt cheap. They all perform well.

I recommend the T7 wedges from the Japan/Asian market, as they DON'T have boron in the mix and feel softer to me. Still get them brand new from Rakuten......or buy some Epon Tour wedges. Lovely shape and loads of spin for me.

For me it's about head shape/look at address coupled with feel. Generally preferred forged wedges for their softness, despite the fact that they tend to wear more quickly. Currently have the Mack Daddy Forged and like them - the 54* is one of the most versatile wedges (again, for me) I've ever played. The 58* is great for open faced shots around the green or from deep rough. The 50* is the only one I'm still not sure I'm in love with - may go back to a Vokey F grind as I typically only use a 50* on full approach shots. But we'll see.

 

The one unique item with these wedges is the straight leading edge, which took some getting used to. But feel-wise, they were the best for me at the time.

I have only used vokeys, Im not skilled enough to know the difference to be honest, but I tried my Dads Milled grind TM wedges and they seemed to have way less bounce than I care for. I mostly use my 14* K grind 58 for most shots inside 80 yards anyways.

Been big on Cleveland for a while but have always like the Vokeys. Whatever it is MUST come in RAW though

Test some out and get what you like best. However, I consider bounce to be your friend.

Depends on your approach to the wedge game. If you hit mainly square face shots, with occasional open up a couple of degrees, you have a much wider range of wedges to choose from.

 

If you like to shape more exotic shots, go with a line such as Vokey, Cleveland or Callaway. Then, stay with it. If your wedge model has 20 different loft and grind combinations with each revision, keeping up with these will keep you busy.

 

And if you have the $$, get custom fit for some Edel wedges. If you prefer high bounce, Edel has grinds that are 20* bounce or higher. And Edel will do extra shaping on your wedge heads pre-delivery. // If you get an Edel fit, make sure it is outdoors - you miss information with an indoor version.

Ping glide 2.0’s have three grind options which seem to be pretty versatile. I like lowish bounce so my 60 is the TS grind. Wilson Staffs PMP wedges are way underrated and can be had for cheap. I have the tour version which has heel and toe relief so I can open and close the face. I do this with the 60 too. And my Mizuno MP-T11 has 8 degrees of bounce and is an old reliable. Use it on full and partial swings but don’t really manipulate it too much other than standing it up on its toe from tight lies

I’ve used a vokey sm5 50° and did not really like the way it felt. If I had the expendable cash I would probably go with the pings SS grind in the 52, ES grind in the 56 and the current TS grind I have

I wouldn't call the s18 a "GI type" wedge. I did some comparison photo to the s18 to the mp series wedge from 2003. Both wedges are 52°, the s18 has 9° bounce and the mp series has 7°.

Vokey, for the shape of the head, and the feel. They have plenty of bounce and grind options to choose from, essentially making it custom for me.
