Did it again. 11 over on the first 9; -1 on the second 9.

I've taken some time off this past month and have only hit two buckets since before Christmas so that's my excuse. In league I started on #16 and for the next 9 holes I was +11. Multiple penalties and 3 putts made for a miserable start. Then I remembered how to play this stupid game and played the next 9 holes in -1. Still shot +10 for the round but at least I don't hate myself.

I feel like the later happens when you simply stop caring about overall scores and have a mind set of one shot at a time. Kinda how some golfers refuse to look at the leader board, it just causes you to mentally grind. I guess it depends on you as a person.

it is true that some guys relax after the round is blown. See it in club c's all the time .. the guy that goes 46-36 and laments what could have been. Hey chooch, you shot 36 because the pressure was off and you were out of the mix

 

Also, you hadn't played in a while so a back 9 surge makes sense

When I shot a 39 / 53 at our club last summer, our starter said, “You shot a Ray Ray. Like Raymond Floyd on the front and like Ray Charles on the back!” I hadn’t heard that one before.

I guess this isn't such a bad thing, but I tend to be pretty dang consistent with my scoring. Not saying I'm great or anything, just steadily shooting in the mid 80's. It can be frustrating though when I'm constantly shooting within 2 or 3 strokes of my average score time after time after time.
