Smoking while playing

Recommended Posts

Vape discreetly during the round and smoke weed on occassion depending on the group. Don't care what anyone else does, allow them to live their lives and enjoy golf in their own way

Those that are against people smoking "weed" while golfing.

How about the use as a medicinal alternative? My pain Dr said I should use it to help with severe cervical stenosis. Also, it cuts down on the need for opoids.

I can't play much anymore regardless of which pain med I use. But without medical marijuana I couldn't play at all. I use a vape pen. Chances are you don't know when I use it. I do my best to be discreet.

It's a touchy subject I get it. In my case it's the only way I can even attempt to play anymore. I'm barley in my 50's and used to play 80-100 rounds a year.

Never thought I'd smoke later in life!!! It's kinda weird and funny ...

My only issue with weed is that it's illegal. If they make it legal, I don't have a problem if another member brings it along in my foursome. I won't smoke it, but at least I can't get in trouble by association.

I don't disagree with you. Luckily for me it's legal in my state.

My thoughts on the act of smoking on the course take a back seat to my utter disgust at the amount of cigarette butts that are left all over the course, especially the greens. I would fully support a ban on smoking on the course simply for the reason that butts are the most common piece of trash I see on the course and it is only smokers who are distributing them.

If you smoke, keep your trash to yourself.

What is "dipping"? (im not googling that on the works PC!)

Think they call it Snüs in Europe or at least in Sweden and maybe the baltic countries.

Moist tobacco, flavored or unflavored, put between your lip or cheek and gums. Biggest drawback (for others) is their need to spit when using it. Guys will either spit into a plastic beverage bottle or a cup with some napkins wadded in the bottom of it.

I don't care for any of it. Cigarettes or cigars are stupid to smoke, but if you do it well away from me it is your suicide. Dipping is disgusting. Weed is illegal and I don't want be around illegal activities. If it is medicinal then it is legal and not much to say about that.

Lemme guess...you don't speed either? George Burns was 94 and smoked cigars. Suicide is very poor choice of words imo.

Agreed. Let's be precise. Statistically likely to die before the mean lifespan due to the poor decision of smoking tobacco products. BTW, I exceed the speed limit moderately when conditions are such that it is safe to do so.

If it's legal, it's your call.

Personally, I think cigarettes, cigars and vape all - literally - stink. But so does flatulence. It's just my opinion. If you're courteous enough to ask, I'd ask you not to blow it in my face. If you blew it my face, I'd ask you not to.

Oh ... and don't litter. I don't leave little wads of waste all over the course, I ask the same of others.

You people are uptight, who gives a turd what other peeps do assuming it doesn't effect your round.

Isn't that THE purpose of the thread/question? Why would anyone ask the question if it clearly never affected anyone's round? What's "uptight" is having no tolerance for differing opinions.

The anti-smoking movement has definitely hurt my golf game.

Years ago, there was always a couple of cigarette butts on the ground which I could use for alignment points as I got ready to hit my shot.

Now, no such help! And if it's a hole with flawless fairway turf, I have no aim point.

Don't care if you smoke anything at all.

BUT - That bucket of sand on the cart is NOT AN ASHTRAY!!!!!!

Agreed...and it's also not a garbage can!

I don't smoke at all anymore (used to do cigars) and dislike the smell of cigarettes, but still, I really couldn't care less if anyone in my foursome smokes during the round as long as they're not blowing it in my face.

So, to answer your question, none of that bothers me. I'll be 68 in March, so besides playing for 54 years now, I guess the best thing I can say is that these things typically don't directly affect me. People generally are courteous enough to not try and purposefully bother someone else with a habit. And I've found that reciprocally if I don't judge someone else for what they do, then things go pretty smooth. So as long as they respect the course and keep it clean, and we respect each other, it's cool.

For everyone who says “just don’t blow it in my face”, in your life, has anyone EVER actually gotten in your face, pointed their lips at you, and blown smoke in your face? I just can’t imagine that is actually a thing.

I think it’s more of a don’t puff away 2ft from me kinda thing.

Not intentionally ... But when you're in a golf cart together, and you get to talking, it can happen. It's also an easy way of saying please keep the open flame and smoke out of my face. Again, not intentional, but it can happen in the close confines of a golf cart. Especially if someone is a "hand talker."

I'm a smoker, been one since 1958 and a golfer since 1962. I smoke on the course and never mind the wind--it blows where it blows. I have an ashtray on my cart and it is used, especially for butts--mine and those I find on the course. When I play other courses I always "make" an ashtray out of a beer can or a plastic coke bottle--it is common courtesy--I bet I hate seeing cigarette butts worse than you do.

If other members do not wish to play in my group because I smoke (in 30 years at my club, no one has expressed such a thing)--fine, we both can live with the decision.

Not even an exaggeration tatertot. Mom smoked for 30+ years, and quit cold turkey after my grandmother (who had smoked most of her life) lost a lung to cancer. Step father is a hardcore drug user. Spent the formative years of my life surrounded by booze and smoke. Vowed I would never spend my adult life in the environment and I’ve kept that promise. I know what I’m missing. I choose my own path.
