Dublin - Island Golf Club

Recommended Posts

Hey Guys - I am going to be in Dublin in April for a few days and have a chance to get 18 in and am planning to play at the Island Club. We are staying in Temple Bar area, does anyone know what a cab would cost for the trip up to the course and how easy it is to grab a cab (never been to Dublin)? If there is easy public transit I would be open to that as well.

Also, for anyone who has played at the Island Club are there any requirements I should be aware of beforehand as a visitor like handicap verification or anything?

Easy to get a cab. Might get up to 40 euro each way. Depends on the wait time. Getting the cab back will be the harder part. Though you can get some drivers that may hang around or would be willing to come back and get you.

You honestly would be way better off renting a car..you can get a car for 15euro.

If you don't want to get a car, there is a rail that goes from Connolly to Donabate. You would then need to have to catch a taxi from the station to the course. You could find a taxi service in Donabate and pre arrange the pick ups.

No hc verification needed.

I considered renting a car but I can't drive stick (shame me I know) so the price for an automatic would be about 40-50 euro for the day minimum. Nearest car rental place is also about a 20 min walk from my hotel which is why I figured for a bit more money, could just make it easier on myself and take a cab door to door.

Appreciate the insight though. Also this might be another ignorant question but am planning on taking a caddy which will be my first time ever taking a caddy, is the fee for the caddy on the website in addition to tip as well or is that just the mandated gratuity amount and there is no fee in addition?

You may want to call and double check if they have changed...but in general, getting a caddie in Ireland means you are just paying the caddie direct the amount quoted. Tipping is in addition to that fee.

What you may want to do, is if you happen to take a cab at some point, ask the driver if he does private drives on the side and if he would take you back and forth. You may be able to negotiate a better deal.

Yes Corballis is a decent little links course for those that don't need to have the top courses. Another one to look at depending on price is County Louth(Baltray) - there are sometimes really good deals. That is an excellent course.

But based on the sound of the group, Corballis is fine.

I did this a few years ago. Took the train to Donabate then a 10 euro cab to the club. Get the number for the cab company before you head out there because internet reception was terrible by club and by the time you finish the pro shop will be closed and most of the members will have left. I ended up taking a 50 euro cab ride all the way back to Dublin because when the cab got me back to the train station it was all locked up, raining and getting dark so Didn’t want to figure it out.

Good luck. It’s a great course.

I actually emailed the folks in the pro shop and they said it wouldn't be a problem at all for them to call a cab when my round was over. I suppose I should ask when they close up shop for the day although I'm planning on an 11AM tee time so I'm sure there will still be people working by the time I get done.

Did you ask them about the 11Am tee time? I may be mistaken but I was told only members are allowed to play before 3pm. Guess could only get tee times after 3.
