Patrick Reed has been awarded Honorary Life Membership of the European Tour

Reed is the 55th player to receive European Tour Honorary Life Membership, joining Molinari, who received the prestigious commendation in December in recognition of his maiden Major Championship at Carnoustie.

The 28 year old is only the fourth American to receive the honour, joining Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer and Tom Watson, who have all been recognised since John Jacobs, the founding father of the European Tour, became the first recipient in 1978.

Wow, you guys know my feelings about Patrick, ie., I like he and Justine a lot, however compared to the other three Americans on the list, is he not a tad light on the hardware?

I mean that’s great and hats off to him for the honor though I’m just surprised as he also is a tad light on his PR team, rep, etc. however they obviously felt that he was worthy, so that’s fantastic!!

May he enjoy continued success!!

Cheers?

Reed has shown the ET a lot of love (I'm sure tournament hosts have made it worth his while) so from that point of view I get it but it does seems a little bit odd.

I enjoy watching Reed play and in my opinion the constant pile on seems really harsh to me.

Watson 2010, Nicklaus 2014 - hmmm, very late in their careers, nobody since and now one Masters win.

Lowering of standards and just some PR BS by Pelley.

Reed has supported the ET which is great, so that's probably what it's about more than anything. Still seems out of place.

Def out of place. You would think Koepka would be more deserving based upon the Reed criteria.

I must agree that Reed seems like an odd choice. Can't say that he has distinguished himself on the course enough to deserve a lifetime exemption to any major tour.

I think the criteria was based on being the only American to not entirely suck in the Ryder Cup lately.

Might also be a slap in the face to Rory for not committing to the other side of the pond.

What is the source on that Arnie, Jack, and Tom photo? The signatures look off and I'm curious as a collector.

The good news is that if Mr Pelley is now handing out honorary lifetime memberships far too early to be deserving, we now know how he'll get round Rory's Ryder Cup issue in 18 months.

Already been resolved with Rory and the ET.

And Koepkas Euro Tour history

If Koepka (I'm an admirer of his game, swing etc.) had kept playing the minimum on the ET to retain his membership then he'd 100% definitely have gotten lifetime membership given his exploits in the majors.

OK Brooks has played a few more events recently, especially in the last six months, but since he moved over to the PGA Tour he's barely played any regular ET events.

I really wish he'd have kept playing enough to keep his membership but I can't totally understand it from his point of view plus he has had some injuries so that may have been a factor.

such a horrible decision by the tour, many many far more deserving candidates!

sure he has played more events than other yanks but still, most of those Dubai ones will have only been for the appearance fee.

awful move by the tour, and judging by twitter pretty much everyone agrees

I imagine he has probably indicated he will play BMW Wentworth etc. given the new schedule.

I don't disagree with you about this decision but Twitter is never a barometer for me on any issue.

The signatures look good to me.
