Cobra F9 irons!!!!!!

I was all set to get a set of new Ping irons like I do every 2 years.

Then, I hit the new Cobra F9 irons. Holy crap, they are phenomenal.

Great looks at set up, nice smaller head, not as much offset as the Ping G410's, nice top line. Then, I hit them, and the universe exploded!!!!!!!

The ball literally explodes off that club face. I was getting 3-4 mph more ball speed vs the G410's, and the trajectory was heavenly. I face a lower trajectory with my irons, always have fought that, low draws. I was hitting the irons with a 20 degree trajectory, 145-150 carry (that's usually my total distance with the G410's), and these rolled out about 8-10 yds total distance. I got more rpm's, about 5300 with the F9's and they stopped fairly quickly on the greens.

3 things stick out with this iron......1,. feel. The forged face makes these clubs feel like butter; 2. the higher trajectory, thus more carry. 3. higher ball speed = more distance.

I'm thoroughly sold on these irons.

One thing I also noticed is that they don't jack up the lofts. Their lofts are 1/2 degree stronger than the Ping G410's, yet they launch the ball higher, and thats all due to technology, like the tungsten weight in the toe and heel, face thickness, forged face, speedback design, sole thickness, pwrshell face, high moi, cnc milled faces, progressive spin technology, progressive hosel lengths, ......lots of goodies!

Hey man, I'm the dude

I seeing lots of good results as well..distance plus feel great combo in a game improvement iron..

Under construction....

Glad you're digging the irons. The driver seems to have over shadowed the rest of the F9 lineup.

I've got my sights set on trying both the the Ping G410 line & the Cobra F9 line before any other OEM. Just like the looks of both & I'm pretty sure the performance will be there.

Same here. Assumed I was going to order g410, but ended with f9. All indoor at this point, but feel is great on solid strikes. Can't wait to get these on the course.

Hit the Cobra F9 demo 7 iron outdoors today. My father tagged along and he had his G400 irons. I tested the 7 iron of the G410 vs the G400 and there wasn't a whole lot of difference in performance. I will say I liked the feel of the G400 over the G410, altho I like the looks of the G410 a little better.

Couldn't really compare the F9 and the G410, except for the 7 iron, since only the G410 7 iron demo is currently available. The F9 consistently hit the ball about a club further, mainly because I got more carry with it. The Cobra definitely had the best feel, by far, in the group because of its forged face. It was a softer feel vs both Pings, yet it maintained a firmness as well.

Still sold on the F9.

I was very surprised when i demoed these sticks! Look great, feel soft and easy to hit! Bang for your buck, these will be a great seller with the G410s(which I love too). ;)

I really like them as well when I demo,d them, hit both the SL and regular version. Although they are fugly from the sole/cavity, they look good at address, IMO what actually matters. Offset did not appear to be that much, topline was good there is bevel to reduce.the size, and what I would consider a generous blade length without being huge. They are definitely not compact. Forgiving, feel is good, and easy to hit. What I'm not a fan of is the stock shaft offering, too light. Kudos to cobra as they have a really good list of no upcharge shaft offerings on their site, but that does not help when wanting to demo one, you are stuck with what they have in the store. And the lies are 1* more upright than standard, so if you need any more than 1* flat (from a regular standard) you are out of luck. As a result these are a no go for me. Likely was not buying them anyway, but the lie angles rule these out from the jump!

How do they look to you? The sole looks pretty wide and I would be concerned about digging. What shafts did you try? Thanks for the post and your insights

The sole doesn't play as wide as it appears. The outer part of it (Speedback) isn't actually flush with the bottom, so the portion that's actually contacting the ground is the same size as normal soles. It's better illustrated on the product page under Speedback Design

Attaching a pic of my 6 iron to illustrate this. While you will definitely see the sole at address in the mid and long irons, a decent amount is not flush to the ground. Not a great pic, but you can make out the part not flush on the back of the sole.

Thanks. And it’s not that bad imo

Only about 1/2 the sole comes in contact with the ground. The reason they launch so high is the lower cg in the irons.

I was hitting the graphite shaft, the70g shaft.

The website shows you can order 2* flat from their “standard” if you want.

Which in reality is 1* flat. I'm sure they could be pushed another degree, but that would be at the risk of the buyer and finding a shop that would do it. Not worth the risk.

I do really like the look and design of these with the sole and COG changing throughout the set. Hopefully folks can get past how fugly they look sticking out of the bag and give them a fair shake/demo, as they are a good offering!

I have hit these twice at the golf shop, first time just out of boredom, and second time to verify what happened the first time. I hit a few different irons I really wanted to hit the first time, and they did not outperform my Apex CF16. It was about 15 minutes before shop closed so I hit the F9. I was getting about 15 yards more than the Mizuno forged 919 and another club, was getting about 8 yards more than the Rogue...I hit the others again and the Cobra continued to destroy them.

I went back and hit the Mizuno Hot Metal Pro and the Ping I500, once again the Cobra destroyed them. Higher launch, longer distance, and more forgiving (although, the consistency of the Ping was amazing, I hit the club exactly the same yardage 4 straight times, and the fifth time, I gained a yard)

All of that being said, I don't really like the look of the Cobra, the thick sole and the back of the club do not appeal to me. Going to have a real fitting with them compared against the Titleist AP1 I think.....

Cobra does have some really nice stuff out right now but why is it so expensive??

Am I paying $150 more for GI irons because of the grip sensors? IF so, I don't need the sensors I just need the irons

To be fair, they are cheaper than ap1, g410, rogue, and similar to m6 irons. Irons alone, they seem to be priced fairly. Consider the Arccos a nice bonus.
