Your Easiest to hit blades?

Stonewalled

Recommended Posts

I don't really know if they count as blades or not, but the Ping iBlades are ridiculously easy to hit. They definitely look like a blade, but they act like a GI iron. Not much of a penalty on anything slightly mishit, and anything drastically mishit doesn't kill you. Then again, if you're asking about blades, I'd guess you won't be drastically mishitting it much

I get more than my share of mis hits, me. hitting blades is more for fun than playing for cars. etc. lol. Was thinking of selling some of my stuff and was thinking back on what I hit last year. Some of my better memories were from hitting the blade style irons. I had some iblades for a few weeks, I love Ping irons and loved the iblade look, for some reason sold em. Would love to try em again.

MacGregor Vfoil 1025m.

Seriously...they are so easy to hit...and gorgeous... and worth it.

I regret selling mine.

Lots of nice reviews on those. Well designed. These the Roy Mcavoy Tin cup model's?

No, I think Tin Cup had VIPs. The VFoil 1025M's are from this century, Tin Cup came out in 1996.

That's too funny. This century. The V-foil were the one's I was looking at, someone on one of the reviews of those mentioned Tin cup. The V-foils look like they could rereleased just they way they are. Very nice lines.

The V Foils look a bit like a PMB clubhead with a little wing on the back. I never jumped on them because they were reputed to produce a bit higher trajectory, which was something I definitely didn't need in those days. LOL

My Mizuno MS-11s rank way up there, they've surprised me a few times. They also have a fair amount of bounce, 5* in the 3 iron to 6* in the 9 iron. MP-14s have a very low CG and would be great for those whose contact patterns could benefit from such. I've always thought the Ram Tour Grinds were moderately good in this regard, one reason I've kept using them.

The granddaddy of the blades I've hit might be the old Palmer Standards. Remember toe-hitting a 4 iron one day from 4 iron distance, and was shocked to find my ball past pin high. They're a little sharp on the leading edge, though. LOL

Kinda glad I posted this topic. Getting some great info on irons I have never had the pleasure of hitting. Those MS-11's & MP-14's are very tempting. Thought I was done shopping. lol. Iv'e got some reading to do. You know your blades NR. Thx for the info.

If by easiest to hit you mean most "forgiving," I would have to say those with tungsten plugs in the sole, such as the Cobra Fly Z Pro and the current MBs. To me, the Callaway MBs are the most demanding of the current MBs. If you are referring to true "blades," I don't associate the word "easy" with any of those beasts (of course, my handicap is not <4.)

I'm not sure what I really meant, forgiving or favourite, or if u had to play a blade what would it be. Something like that. I have the Fly Z pro's and they are pretty compact and feel great when u hit em right. I hit one of the Cal MB's one day at one of the shops and quickly put it away. Hope no body seen me hit that. lol. I hear ya on the not so easy part. Lots of fun trying though.

I've read that the Fourteen FH1000 play easy but I haven't tried them.

I have read the reviews on the 1000's from back in 2015?? or so. Always wanted a set but never had the pleasure. Love the satin look of those. I have some TC-910 CB's that feel fantastic, I would bet my right n-t that those 1000's are heavenly.

Thanks for the positive waves. :)

If you look at the MOI measurements on GolfWorks, the highest MOI blade clubhead of the last 30 years or so are the various versions of the Rac blades. They're essentially the same MOI as the 2011 TP MC's.

That said, I don't think there's much difference between those and a lot of others mentioned. A difference of couple hundred gram-centimeters-squared isn't profound, in terms of application to performance. IMHO, of course. ;)

It may not be the answer you're looking for but to be totally real with you, I wouldn't say any of the blades I've played over the years were any "easier" than the others. It's true that if you go back far enough blades start to shrink in size and get really sharp on the leading edge. That's not good. But virtually anything from Titleist, Mizuno, Nike, etc. that's come out in the last 15 years will all look and play more or less the same to someone just starting.

I've played the TW blades someone mentioned. They were great. I've played the ZM / 695 and current MB models from Titleist. You can't beat 'em. I've played a few options from Mizuno like the MP-37 and the MP-64. Those are great options, too.

You can't go wrong with any of them. They're all about 95% the same if we're perfectly honest. While you might perceive a slightly different feel at impact, the results will be more or less the same.

As a final note I would point out that the one of the most important parts of irons are the soles and the turf interaction that comes from it. While you'll immediately notice whether a club have perimeter weight or not, pay some attention to how rounded the sole is and how much bounce it has. Some blades tend to have flatter soles than others. I prefer a more rounded style such as Mizuno has done. The current Titleist offers have the ground leading edge which I think adds to the effective bounce, too. I have a set of 716 MB irons that are great in that regard.

agree, when talking about blades easier to hit than others your splitting hairs....none I've hit (quite alot) were substantially easier than any other......perspectives change given who is playing....so these arent the same from every golfer.....a guy who stripes his irons consistently might think x brand is alot easier than y brand but it's his perspective and not same for single, mid or high hdcp....so when asking for opinions remember it depends from where it's coming from and also take egos into consideration.......usually this question would have a response to "if you have to ask than prolly not for you"

That's a pretty good answer Mello Yello. Basically a blade is a blade, with minor differences. Looks like u have found your favourites.

My original goal for this thread was to see what others have found to be their favourite easiest to hit blades. I have come to the conclusion that the MB2's and MP-5's are my favourites.

Some of the member's may think I was looking for more.... easy to hit blades but that is not the case. [Well never say never] Lots of great favourites listed.

I was also not trying to say I play the best with blades, or always want to play blades, and need more forgiving blades. Just saying I found my favourite what's yours.

Lots of great info thanks for responding.

I have looked pretty hard at MOI measurements from Golfworks for CB/GI clubs but not much on blades. Thanks for the heads up.

im on my 5th season with my Nike VR pro combo. Blades only in PW thru 8i. I had no business playing them when i first got into the game, but I would attribute my swing development by sticking with them. I would like to have a blade in 7i, but as of late, I'm starting to search for a little more help across the board. Somewhere in the realm of i210 or AP2.

Macgregor 1025m's are a good call. That flanged sole really helped to launch the long irons.

Original X proto's were also good, as were the mp32's. The cuts in the muscle in both models helped put the weight where you want it to aid forgiveness.

One of my favorites for an easier to hit blade were the Snake Eyes 600b.

Thought the mb2's were pretty good also.

I always found the Staff fg51's not demanding for an older model.

KZG ZO's have a slightly longer blade length which seemed to give a sweet spot a bit bigger than some.

I had better stop there. Starting to sound like confessions of a blade addict.

Original Callaway X-Prototype is by far the easiest to hit and they get a run when I'm searching for my game. Really can't fault the '18 MBs currently in my bag either. Had the S55s but they aren't really a blade. The 690s I had were very dense feeling for a Titleist, almost Miura like.

They're not. They're pretty dead feeling no matter the shaft. Aesthetically, one of the most beautiful, performance wise they were very underwhelming.

I would try a Maltby TS1 head paired with a reliable shaft. Has a fairly high MPF rating for an MB type iron.

whatever no-name, unbranded 3-5-7-9 starter set I bought in college -- I didn't know they were supposed to be hard to hit so I just hit them!

(for those too young to remember, in the late 70's and early 80's (and before I'm sure) there used to be "starter" sets that were just 3-5-7-9 irons and 1-3-5 woods -- laminated real wood woods -- and the irons were as bladey as any blade you've ever seen, including very shart leading edges)

Into early 80's, blades were all that were available, Pings original eye 2 changed that, although earlier cavity backs were available in the ping line, but the eye 2

were a measurable perimeter weighted design that worked.
