Bad experience at club champion. Nashville

Fitting is all about trying different clubs. Nothing wrong with the OP wanting to see how the PXG compared to his gamer. Maybe on paper it appeared to be too low spin, but what if OP hit 15 yards farther than his G400? He will never know because the fitter didnt even let him test it!!!

Far from demoing clubs.

Sounds like a terrible fitter who hates his job. I had the opposite experience at Club Champion Long Island. He knew I was a wrx junkie and allowed me to go over to the selection and try anything I wanted along with his recommendations. Yes, it’s a fitting but for some of us it’s the only opportunity to scratch the itch on the latest and greatest we read about here. No harm in trying what the OP wanted to even if the fitter didn’t think it was for him

Fittier should have been more attentive to your desires. Can I ask why you weren’t more assertive? You paid the money, you should dictate the terms, within reason. I know that it isn’t easy for some but you should have been able to say “Brett, I’m sure you have your reason against the PXG driver but I’d like to hit it so that I can see the numbers. Who knows, we might find that it’s a good fit.” Typically, that’ll let them know you’re fair but firm. Sometimes, someone is having a bad day and they need to know that you have recognized that and aren’t going to be accepting.

I told him multiple times I wanted to try multiple clubs and he kept saying it didn’t work that way. It was just a bad situation. In hindsight I should’ve told him it wasn’t working and left

I hear you. It sounds like he wasn’t taking the soft approach. Maybe a flat out “This isn’t working and don’t seem interested in listening to me.” Would have been the best tactic. I hope they do right by you.

Maybe your fitter was right, and the PXG driver was not right for you. But that does not excuse his behavior. He should have let you hit it, see the crappy numbers, and then say that he wants to be efficient with your time, so y'all should try clubs he thinks will be best for you.

It was just bad from the start. He previously worked for ping. Said the g400 was hot as everything else and I wouldnt see a difference until the g410 came out. I’ve learned my lesson, last time I go to a fitting. Sticking with buying and using the trial and error method.

Horrible experience. Guy looks at my bag and says “why are you here? I doubt we can improve on these”. Bag: G400 lst 8.5,TS D3 jpx 919 irons. He asked where I got my gear and I said golfwrx and some retailers. He made a back handed comment about getting gear from here. I had feeling this wasn’t going to be good experience. I was pumped to try the new PXG and F9 with all the buzz and thought my review could help some guys out here who’ve been asking for comparisons. After hitting a few drivers I asked to hit the PXG, he immediately said NO it’s too low spin. The fitter was a condescending a******. I wanted to leave 10 mins into my full bag fitting. Kept telling me this was a fitting and I couldn’t just try stuff that I liked. Told him that I wanted to try the new gear that recently came out to see how it stacked up against mine. He seemed pissed when I told him this. I skipped hitting my wedges, 3 wood and utility iron so I could get out of there. Never felt so uncomfortable. Wasted a 3hr drive and $$$$. I’ll never go back. Fitter was Brett

I only got to hit the F9,M5 and epic flash and 3 irons apex pro, Miura mc 501 and new level. I only got to try 2 different shafts for all the drivers. He almost didn’t let me hit the Miura’s after I said those are sweet I’ve been wanting to try those. Before I hit the miuras he said I couldn’t just pick what I thought looked cool to hit. He said those are similar to my 919’s and I won’t see any improvement in performance but probably a decline. Well he was wrong. Miuras 6 iron went 10 yds further than my 919’s lol. 188 vs 178. He ended up trying to sell me a set of mc 501’s. He also told me my kuro kage xd 60tx was a $600 shaft lol.

I hate to be one of the people on here complaining but I needed to vent and hopefully y’all have a better experience.

For me, if I were to go to a full fitting, I would be a little nervous and skeptical. Professional fitters should understand this about their customers. It sucks that some people forget how to treat customers properly and always have their ego and negativity get in the way. Customer service is a real rarity nowadays, shame. You definitely need to bring this to their attention so they can improve on it. As someone who is in that field, the fitter should understand golfers' needs more than anyone else. Here in the San Gabriel/Pasadena CA area, I hear that the local Golftec staff are great. Some have been in the local golf scene for years, either as teaching pros or golf course PGA pros.

That’s the thing, however, you shouldn’t have to do that. I used to work as a fitter many, many years ago when it was in its infancy. Please, don’t let this one experience deter you from getting properly fit. This guys is either an a-hole, was having a a bad day, not trained appropriately or a combination of all of the above. I can assure you that not everyone is like that.

It sounds like you wanted to demo clubs and not be fit for what's best for you. Not trying to be an Word not allowed, but he was doing what a fitter does. His bedside manner was not good.

To get the most out of a fitting, you need to let them take over, then at the end, ask to hit some clubs you like, not ten minutes in.

How does he know what would be a good fit if he judges him by what he brought and doesnt ask any questions. To trust the fitter in this situation has to be the wildest thing I have ever heard.

Update: I spoke with Eric the GM of the Nashville store. Eric was very apologetic and offered me a full refund. He also invited me back down for a full fitting done the right way. I really appreciate Eric's top notch customer service and rectifying the bad experience.

Glad Eric could help. He is a good dude for sure.

You are basically a formula 1 driver going into a pep boys. Your best bet is to stick with going to Ferrari for your upgrades my friend.

I thought they were one of the best. Do you have any recommendations?

I think Eric used to be in Sandy springs. He was good to me when I went in.

Where is that?

He used to work at Pro Golf Discount in Cool Springs where CC is now. When they closed he went to work for A golf course I believe then to Taylor Made. Actually i think he went out to Phoenix where he is from for a bit before coming back. If Sandy Springs is where the CC is on the north side of ATL then yes I believe he was there for a bit.

My experience wasn't much better. It's really about trying to sell you high end, way overpriced shafts or full builds. It's not really about ensuring you have the best setup for your game. They didn't check for lie angle, gapping, club length or right flex. If you walk in and they see you're pretty well stocked with high end equipment and good shafts, they throw in the towel and half a** it.

Screw that noise. Glad you contacted corporate and hopefully they will rectify this situation pronto. I'd have had no problem telling him that if he didn't feel like he could improve what I have, maybe someone with some actual knowledge and experience would be better suited. It's not like you're Dustin Johnson walking in there asking to be specked out or something

Corporate is very good about ensuring you're satisfied but, these little shops are difficult to staff properly and, most of the guys are ex assistant pros looking for a better career path and probably not paid well enough to truly be invested in the work required to fit you well. I would assume they have strong incentive to sell you something. The only thing I got out of it was a putter adjustment that ruined a $200 putter because they didn't know how to bend a double bend shaft properly. I had such high hopes and walked away completely feeling I wasted $$$. Very disappointing
