Romo should announce golf

Pebble, CBS, Nantz, the Super Bowl...got me thinking.

CBS: Put Romo in the Booth with Nantz for a couple of tourneys this year. If you want, let Faldo in there as well to make it a three man team. Sir Faldo will absolutely snark up the whole thing and be soo insulted that Romo is even on the grounds. It will be great tv, and by far the best goft broadcast team in the business.

CBS, do it!

You got ideas...I wanna hear them!

The Super Bowl wasn’t his first NFL broadcast - he did simutalated games with Nantz beforehand. But I would absolutely choose to listen to Nantz/Romo at Augusta over the current team.

I like the way you think OB. I think it's great to have a quality announcer with some insight paired up with Faldo. That could make for some fireworks.

Anything to get Faldo out of there. That guy is constantly taking me on an anecdote ride with no destination.

No...Romo played football a long time, that combined with willingness to call plays out loud on the broadcast is what makes it work. What does he know about golf? Sure, he can play well, has tried to qualify for US Open, but that is a far cry from understanding what is in the head of PGA Tour player.

As irritating as I find Nance, and it is really just because I am tired of listening to him after decades, he does do a good job and not easily replaced. No need to undercut him with Romo on a golf telecast.

    This is a swell idea
    Glove: ML
    Tees: 2 3/4
    Towel: white
    Repair tool: metal
Ball Marker: largest poker chip in the world
    Iron headcovers: wait, what?

    The feedback system is annoying

    Romo clearly knows football.

Throwing him in a golf booth like an old MNF broadcast? No thanks!

Faldo is pretty good and pretty knowledgeable, just a little quirky once in awhile.

Let Romo do the Westminster Dog Show a few years and earn some non-football credentials, or bring back Battle of the Network Stars.

    God no.

I don't get the Romo love. I like that he calls some of the plays ahead of time, but his near orgasmic voice "Here we gooooo Jimmmm!!!!!" is as annoying AF.

I suggested the same in another thread. I don't understand why analysts have to be former Tour players. Some of the greatest voices of generation in various sports never played the game at the highest levels.

Excellent for you to make this its own thread!

Romo has tons of experiencing playing golf too, with Dallas not having made a run to the Super Bowl with him at QB.
    The average WRX'er drives it 342, and hits a 7-iron 220.*

Commentators aren't experts of the game, analysts are. The best analysts professionally played or coached the sport they are analysts in, they have unique insights that you don't typically gain from just calling games.

This is the second forum thread you've addressed this issue with me. You seem to have some personal, irrational dislike for Tony Romo? There are any number of ways telecasts could improve. One would be a welcomed change to the regurgitated former Tour player turned analyst. Again, golf has done this before with Verne Lundquist, Jack Whitaker, Ben Wright, Henry Longhurst and Chris Schenkel. Pat Summerall was the lead voice for CBS golf coverage from 1968-1994. I believe Romo, Erik Ander Lang, ANdy Johnson, Brendon Porath, Shane Bacon, DJ Piehowski and several others would be a breath of fresh air.

As I said in the other thread, agree to disagree. But it's okay with me of you want to be wrong in two forum threads!

Sixcat I agree with you 100%. If they did put Romo in the booth I'm sure it would be a three man booth and people would still get their fill of some old crotchety ex-pro who talks about how things were 30 years ago.

Verne Lundquist is great at the Masters and has arguably the most iconic calls ever in golf with the Jack "yes sir" and the Tiger chip in. The fact that Verne never played on the PGA tour does not diminish any of that for me. There are just people that are entertaining to listen to.

Also I know it was a joke and more of a publicity thing but Romo has played in an actual PGA event.

Romo made Superbowl 53 barely watchable. I mean that as a compliment. It would have been unwatchable without him. Phil Simms has been stepping up his game but too little, too late. Phil is great on the radio when he's more off the cuff, but listening to him announce football, it's hard to believe he won a Super Bowl.

I hate the stupid cowboys, but have to admit Romo is really good. He seems like a good guy and teaches about football. It would be a good experiment to try him in the golf booth.
