TaylorMade M5 cracking already ???

Here comes the Boom

Recommended Posts

That flap isn't terribly different to the 2017 M1 driver, is it? Did they break as well?

The flap wasn't carbon in 2017.

How many more sleeps until they release a revised head?

We still have many many sleeps before they even acknowledge there is a problem...

Funny how TM was quick to jump in daily and drop part of a spy shot of the driver prior to the reveal. But now they seem to have disappeared...?

Its also possible - possible - that TM only deals in factual/actual return number-%s and not message board speculation. I know for a fact TM monitors that kind of thing like a hawk so they know how many heads are coming in and where they came from. Actual returns mind you, not "Johnny's uncle heard from Dave's friend at work that there was a demo head at a golf shop four towns over that had this happen". So far I think I've seen pics of three actual heads that this happened to - and two came from tour use and may or may not have been different pics of the same head.

I'm not saying this isnt happening or hasn't happened or isn't a worldwide Stage 14 crisis for Taylormade that they are dealing with as they are going bankrupt in the process. Just that its quite possible there isnt this massive crisis to break down just yet.

BTW - and not to get in the way of a good panic over another OEM conspiracy - but the numbers/performance I've seen from the M5 at the range and in the simulator have been bonkers so far. Today will be my first day on course with it and hoping to get back onto Trackman on Thursday.

No skin in this game but I had two cracked heads in my hands this week. If I drive by the shop again I will stop in and snap a few pics for you. I have no reason to lie and I’ve been on this board a very long time. I would say statistically that’s significant for one green grass facility. This is a golf message board afterall kinda the exact thing we talk about. Just in case I’m labeled a TM detractor I have a brand new GAPR Hi and M2 HL in the bag to start this season. BB

No skin either but I think we are eons away from statistically significant. I dont know what I would consider statistically significant but I'd have to know how many tens of thousands (?) of heads are in the field first. I honestly dont know how many heads TM makes during each release. But if we came up with...50 heads that it happened to - what about 100 - I bet this thread would think thats a ton. To me that would be almost nothing. The problem, as with anything of this nature, you'll hear from almost everyone that has a problem with it - but almost no one that just has the driver and likes it.

I'd also want to move to the side any issues with tour heads or demo heads, I dont consider those to be as relative to the discussion as heads that are in "regular" use.

When the polymer fill in my RSI irons shattered and fell out of one my irons, I was one of two people in my regular group that it happened to. Was it "statistically significant" over the bags of a dozen people? Maybe. But I dont like that phrase applied to such a small sample size.

We got a great day today I plan on hitting the course as well. Spoke to a friend of mine who manages a Club Champion and he said their m5 are having issues already on the sole/cf cracking. It's a big problem. In any case i hope they get it sorted out because the m5 has a great profile. I really like the M6 fwy wood too.

TM jumped in? Where? What's TM's screen name here?

Made a lot of posts in the original thread. Always a teaser pic followed by “X more sleeps...” blah blah blah. Wish they’d at least chime in here and speak about these damaged sole plates.

Talked to the TM Rep on Friday about this when he was at the Club. TM Corporate knows all about this issue, it's not a secret. They believe it is a specific type of tee/heel miss that *may* result in damage.

As he stated, there is a 2 year warranty on the M5. TaylorMade's history with replacing clubs is typically very good.

No current plans that he knows of to alter the design, but returns haven't started pouring in yet either.

Don't shoot the messenger, I'm just passing along info from an informal conversation I had.

Very similar info given to me today hosting a TM fitting day. No talk of plans to change the design, and it was known that a very specific type of tee was causing the problem so far. For what it's worth, I checked all the M5 heads in both fitting techs kits, and not a one had any sign of cracking or chipping. And these have been used for fitting events for about 15 events now. That's already a lot of use with no signs of damage.

I guarantee that they are coming out with a different version to fix the problem.

I love the Bobcat references. To this day I play the SLDR-C, which I bought after reading Bobcat's thread. It was less than $100 brand new!

You can keep your M5.

Thanks for your reference!.... :good:

It’s common knowledge that Taylormade reads this forum.

Well then they should re-release the SLDR-C!

Would never happen with a SLDR-C.

Never say never, but it's a lot less likely to happen with a TM Titanium Driver verses one with a composite crown and sole!...
