Golf Galaxy visit, left with a new driver

Went to my local Golf Galaxy this weekend to get my newest PM Grind wedges bought off of CPO and my 3 wood regripped. Brought my Rogue driver with me to hit it against some of the 2019 offerings to see if getting an upgrade over my Rogue was possible.

Told the salesman that I wanted to hit everything they had and I did just that. The only new driver not hit was the Ping G410 because they didn't have it yet.

Drivers hit, all stiff and 10.5 as I'm a low launch hitter. Swing speed ranged from 98mph up to 106mph. Seemed that the roll off of all the drivers was consistently right around 25 yards. Smash factor was right around 1.47 with the Titleist TS2 being the best @ 1.49.

TaylorMade M6

Titleist TS2

Titleist TS3

Cobra F9

Callaway Epic Flash

Ping G400

Ping G400 Max

Started with the Epic Flash as I've been a Callaway loyalist the last couple of seasons. I didn't like the feel with the HZRDUS Smoke stock shaft and wasn't get great numbers. I hit about 5 balls with each driver and then would hit 3 with my gamer. Eliminated the Flash.

Went to the M5 next and although my swing speed was 104-105, I couldn't get great ball speed numbers and dispersion was all over the place. The M5 felt good but the numbers just weren't there in terms of distance. The M6 numbers wise was much better with swing speed the highest at 106mph and smash @ 1.48. Set it aside to evaluate later while deciding the M5 was a no go.

The Cobra was next and the ball speeds were highest (155-156 mph I believe, although I didn't write this down) but the dispersion was all over the place. I really liked the feel and if I hit with a 44 or 44.5 inch shaft, this might be the winner. All the hype about this club is warranted. The drawback was the top of the crown, I just couldn't get over how busy the crown was. Never really liked the dragon fly design on the Ping and the F9 crown made the Ping look tame in comparison.

Speaking of Ping, hit both the Max and the regular G400 and these were pretty lackluster in terms of spin (very high) and distance. Might have been the Ping shaft, not sure...

Then the Titleist, TS3 first, very good results and then the TS2, great results. The TS2 had a 50 or 55 gram Tensei Blue shaft and I was swinging this the hardest. The only drawback with the TS2 was the head shape which again, I just couldn't stomach. I can also see the hype with both the TS3 and TS2 and firmly believe that Titleist has caught up with other OEM's with driver technology.

At this point, I was pretty certain I was not going to be getting anything but the salesman asked me if I wanted to try the Sub Zero Flash. At first I balked because I had bought the Epic Sub Zero at release 2 years ago and ultimately ended up selling it and going with the standard Epic head due to it being more consistent. He brought me a 10.5 and overall numbers with ball speed, dispersion, and after moving the slider to the fade position, ball speed was as high as the F9. I was beating carry yardages against my Rogue by 2-3 yards and the spin was consistently at 2100. After being told that Golf Galaxy had a 150% trade bonus on Rogue's I decided to run home and grab my Rogue draw head and trade that in. I wasn't bothered by the sound at all and at least in the hitting booth, the numbers were better than what I hit last season. Plus, getting over $200 plus off the new driver by trading in a club I wasn't going to ever be hitting again makes complete sense.

I received a sleeve of Flash Truvi's and the limited edition Flash headcover with the purchase. I purchased the Flash Sub Zero with the Tensei Blue and still have the HZRDUS T800 stock shaft leftover from when I purchased my Epic that I used in the Rogue and have always had great results for some reason.

Nice score with double headcovers. I like the looks of the LE one.

I asked twice if I was supposed to get both or was supposed to pick one or the other. I like the LE one, saw some on eBay for $50 ish. Think I'm going to keep it though.

You getting an M5 Tour Money?

F9 is a great head but i really like the moveable rear weight of the Flash to dial in flight. Thanks for taking the time to post that info.

I have one on order currently but I may cancel if they keep pushing the date back. May go to GG like you and put all the new stuff through it’s paces. The guys at my local GG like to hover over you the entire time which gets a bit frustrating. May deal with it this year.
