Kirkland Signature (Costco) golf balls (MERGED) (NO BST POSTS)

You are correct, the Performance Plus is not longer on the USGA website as a conforming ball. I agree that the new K1 (I'm gonna make that stick, damnit!) is right around the corner. I'm guess it will not be $23.99, but probably the $29.99 the original K-Sig sold for (but hopefully you'll get your wish).

Since the new name is Performance One, please suggest the name as P1 and I'll second it :)

Since the original was dubbed the K-Sig, and the current one K3 (for 3 piece...I thought it should have been K+ for since it was "performance +"), I was sticking with the "K" for Kirkland theme. I considered K-P1, but personally preferred K1.

The Ksig was a great ball but all rumored info suggested that it would be short lived and that turned out to be the case.

Then along came the K3. I have no inside info but i suspect it was produced to take advantage of the demand for Kirkland golf balls but was never intended to be a long term product. Costco designs Kirkland Signature products to be as good as any competing product and that was what the hoopla was all about the Ksig vs Pro V1. But the K3 was different as Costco described it as 'a high performance ball suitable for recreational and competitive play'.

The KP1 could be a different story. Costco has had several years to work out the supply chain and I think that the KP1 will be different in two ways: It'll be pro tour quality and it'll be a long term product. Just my 2 cents.

I hope Costco doesn't just OEM new balls from Thailand like so many other cheap brands are doing now.

Not sure what it means, but the confirming ball list shows the maufacturer as "SM Global LLC", which is the same as the 3 piece and IIRC the original "tour" ball as well. Regardless, Kirkland has extremely high standards for their projects so I have every faith the ball will be of great quality. I just wish they'd start selling them already!

Well, Costco certainly isn't going to open a plant and manufacture balls itself. Of course they are going to be rebranded OEM balls. How else could they sell them at Costco prices? They aren't in business to lose money.

I meant not the Thailand made i.e. another vice, cut, etc cheap brand balls.

Ksig was made by Nassau and was really a premium well made ball. K3 otoh was clearly a lesser ball that probably was OEM of those cheap ball designs.

The original KSig was a unique situation, whatever its provenance was (overrun cores, rebadged Nassau Quattro ball, etc). That's what enabled Costco to sell them so cheaply. I doubt the next premium Kirkland ball will be as cheap, or if it is, as good as the original. If the quality approaches the original, the price will likely be higher.

Where are all the folks claiming Costco was going to change the golf ball world as we knew it? Titleist, Bridgestone, Callaway, and TM still look to be in the ball business, and Costco basically isn't (at the moment). The KSig was a boon to cheapskates, flippers and hoarders. For everyone else, (golf) life moved on.

Costco has very good relationships with korean companies. Considering top revenue location in the world is in Korea that not a surprise.

Nassau and Ksig might have been one-off but there is a chance something similar might come up in the future.

Costco did change the industry. I didnt agree with "it is going to kill Titleist" but with so many alternative balls that came to market after Ksig and major manufacturers doing significant price cuts (except one.. ;) Costco was a major factor and even if they do $39/2dozen premier Ksig quality ball, effect will be felt by the major players.

If another K3 is released, then Costco will notice how low the sales # will be

My big decision now is whether to get some more of the current ones while I can, or wait to see what happens. I was going to wait until closer to golf season to reload on balls. I guess I'll probably just wait and if there is no new ball or it's overly expensive try to find a cheap alternative.

I'm in the same boat as you. If Costco doesn't have a ball by the time winter ends I'll probably go with the MG C4

Costco is not Titleist and will not gouge their Members/customers for any product. Any talk of a new ball being far outside of what the original K-Sig cost is just silly.

I agree, my bigger concern is availability. That said, I am very Scottish (we prefer "thrifty" to "cheap"). I'm not going to spend $30 on a dozen balls no matter how good they are. Not at the rate I lose them.

<sigh> Just because a golf ball is no longer on the USGA conforming list does not make them illegal to play or non conforming. Dean Snell has posted on this recently You can still use them to your hearts content. The only time it would be an issue is if you play an event where your ball of choice must be on the conforming ball list. Few people here play events/matches where that rule is in place.

I read Deans response when he posted it, that doesn't change the fact Costco is advertising the ball as conforming when it's no longer on the list.

The ball just dropped off the conforming list 3 days ago...Pretty sure updating their website to reflect this is pretty low on the list of their businesses worries...

Yeah let's hope they have stocking Apothic Red as a higher priority. Our Costco was out a couple of weeks ago and that wasn't good!

Has anyone seen or heard anything about the 4 piece Performance One ball? Anything???

I think if there had been anything on it this thread would be the place to find ti, so I'm guessing it's been radio silence up to now. Given that it seems they're discontinuing the Performance Plus, I'm betting we see something before the spring thaw.

Golfballsdirect has a 24 hour sale on the original 4 piece K-Sigs for $6.21 a dz for 4A used balls. $6 shipping under $75 and free over $75. I still have 8 dz new ones but got another batch as the price was too good to pass up. I've found that their 4A balls are pretty good though I expect I'll get a few clunkers.
