The No Ace Club - How close did you get this year?

3 feet on a 300 yard par 4. Closer than any par 3 I played. :taunt:

 

Also came up 4" short for an albatross from 174 out. That would have meant way more to me than an ace.

Last week I had 2 shots land pin high right of the pin and then both spun back towards the pin. Ended up with a 20" birdie putt and 12" birdie put. Made both of course but would rather have a hole-in-one and 3 putt one of the two. 13,000ish chances and still no hole-in-one. Woe is me!

 

On a bright note one my golf partners had his first after a very long wait. It was the first I have ever witnessed in person and it looked good from start to finish. I at least had the presence of mind to get a picture of him on the tee box after the shot and then a video of the walk to the hole ending with him pulling his ace out of the hole. He got off easy on the buying drinks part as well which I was happy to see.

It was a mid length par 3 (175-ish yards), the ball landed a few feet short, rolled up, hit the pin, and ended up about an inch away.

Unfortunately the person before me didn't put the flagstick in correctly and it was leaning towards the front of the cup... Oh well, maybe one day it'll happen!

Par 3, 188yrds. It landed a few yards short and rolled past the pin, from the tee it looked like it going to go straight in but just missed. The ball, hole, ball mark where all in a straight line

1 F*#&'n inch...It was behind the cup as well, flag stick between me and the ball. The only silver lining is that is was during a member/guest...that would have been expensive.

Less than 2 inches twice... from the tee I thought it was in. I’ve hit so many good golf shots, I think my first Ace will come from a kick of the sprinkler head

Bounced Hit the bottom of the pin dead on and bounced back to 2 feet. 3 wood from 245.

Almost got one yesterday! 155 yds over marsh with a 6 iron on a day where it was 45 degrees out and a slight wind in my face. My ball landed on the side of the cup (divot as proof) and bounced about 5’ left of the hole. I sank the birdie but DAMN!

Was playing as a single and passing through a group and just trying to get out of their way pretty quickly. Didn't even really line up the shot. PW from 133 to 2 feet. Usually that's a spot where shank one because people are watching, but I was able to make them feel good about their decision to let me play through. lol

Well, had yet another close one while on Christmas vacay. It was on the same hole my wife aced 3 years ago, would have been pretty funny for us both to get one on the same hole. One day.

Not worth remembering. Closest Ive ever been was like 10 years ago it seems. That was about 8 inches. Ive gotten way better but not even close to that. Im somewhere around an 8 handicap too.

I used to put unneeded pressure on myself when it came to par 3's. Felt like the only way to get a hole in one was to hit a great shot. Came within a few feet this year but made more bogeys than birdies. Gave that philosophy up and now seem to play par 3's much better.

I regularly hit it to within 3 ft on par 3's. No aces.

 

I also carry my driver 295 and am a 11 handicap.

 

With short iron and tee game like that, you must really suck at putting.

Playing in a scramble come to a 340 yard par 4 and i smash it. I couldnt see it land as i hit it over bunkers but i new i hit it good. I figured it was a short wedge away but didnt see it as we drove up. As we got closer i saw a ball on the green. The group in front said they were on the green putting when a ball rolled directly over the hole and past them. If the pin would have been in they thought it would have dropped.

 

And i did not see any of it.

Narrowly missed two HIOs this week. One on a 148 yarder over water with a 6-some plus 2 caddies all surrounding the green waiting for me to play through and kind of pressuring me to go ahead and hit it. In mid-air one of the caddies says “get in the hole!” Lands about 3 feet right of the hole and stops right there.

 

Second was 182 yarder and I hit a perfect shot with the perfect club, land about 6 ft short right of the hole and slowly rolls just past the hole and ends up about 3 ft past.

 

Two tap-in birdies are nice, but I’m annoyed that I’m still waiting on the HIO.

For 2018 I got within 16 inches twice. The funny thing is I did it on back to back days on the same hole. Haven’t been that close since.

Closest last year was on the lip. Ball mark was about 4" directly behind the hole and ball was on the front lip dead center. Couldn't see it from the tee but it missed have lipped out to finish where it did.

So far number 14 hit right before the flag bounced forward zipped back to bounce off the flag! Ended up 3’ away. Putt broke 6” I missed it 4 times I just couldn’t believe it broke that much! I’m glad I didn’t make it I was playing alone! Would have been my 4th. 7 iron from 155

Funny, I can think of about five different times I holed it from the fairway on a par four or five, but never a hole-in-one.

I’ve had a few close calls in the last few weeks but none more heartbreaking than the 245 yard three wood I hit on a par 3 to about 8 inches. That would have been a cool ace to have as my first. Good news I’ll get four more chances next time I play. :)
