Mizuno Shaft Optimizer (club fitting)

Was in Atlanta GA on business and few of the kind folks on Wrx recommended a list of places to experience which I'm very thankful for..

 

At the Mizuno experience center, I was able to try the Shaft Optimizer fitting tool.. I swung a 6i three times with the device and below were my numbers and recommend set up:

 

 

 

Does anyone know how to compare these numbers from a good swing to a bad swing?

 

any info would help..

One interesting thing from my experience in using it to fit players, was that the numbers do not change much on an individuals good and bad shots, aside from club speed. Someone who plays a decent amount will load the shaft in a similar fashion regardless of whether its a good shot or bad shot. Based on this, i can assume that those numbers should be a good indicator of a good and/or bad shot.

 

Another thing to understand is that the optimizer is reading how the shaft bends, and how fast the head is moving at impact. That means the shaft selection is the most important thing to gather from the device. Ive never seen the mizuno optimizer recommend the head and grip, but its been a couple years so that must be a newer thing.

 

It is a nice device to have, and the KBS Tour is a very nice shaft.

The numbers are on a 1-9 scale, and higher numbers mean that each feature is more accentuated. In other words, for tempo, 1 would be a very slow tempo and 9 would be a very fast tempo. In terms of release, low numbers mean a later release (i.e. holding the angle longer) and higher numbers mean a quicker release (not holding the angle as long).

 

Tempo: How quickly you transition from the backswing to the downswing.

Shaft Toe Down: A measure of the bowing of the shaft in a downward direction during the downswing.

Shaft Kick Angle: The amount of shaft forward bending during the downswing motion.

Release Factor: How and when the clubhead and shaft are releasing during the downswing motion.

 

Your numbers are pretty middle of the road on the scale, and don't lend themselves to comparison with a "good swing" or "bad swing". They are just the characteristics of "your swing". The goal is to match that with the right shaft.

I was 69 years old at the time and the optimizer said I should use a X shaft....thank goodness I did not pay any any attention to it.

The consensus here is that it tends to recommend on the stiff/heavy side. That was my experience too.

My numbers were 87 speed 3254 In august 2018. My recommends were c Taper light R flex Kbs 120 R flex as the 2 I remember. Since there was no one in the store at that time I hit the 2 recommends and Kbs 120 S. End result no variation in distance and S flex had a better accuracy rate. What I took out of it was it is a great starting point .

Just curious if anyone has an account number or whatever is necessary to pair the device/login to the app? Not sure if that's possible but I have access to an optimizer and it's not paired to anything. Just want to sync it to my phone to test out. Thanks
