Cold Weather Golfing - How Was Your Round

Naptime

Just need to figure out how to do it in a comp now lol

You and me both - though I managed it once last year and I'm improving. But my course changes from 5,700 to 6,100 yards which is quite a difference. A couple of the par 3s actually become out of range for me at 235 (rare I can drive that and the green is set into a steep bank that slopes left down to right) and 208 (I can drive that but there are bunkers guarding the approach that make it risky).

DNF :(

It didn't rain (other than a few short squalls) but 40mph + winds and 6c is unpleasant when you're on the highest ground for miles around. The wind roaring through the trees was distracting and neither of us was playing well. It took me five holes before I realised I wasn't turning my hips on the back swing. On the plus side it finally explains why sometimes I stop when my club is vertical and feel like I should swing down - it's because the upper body part of my swing is complete.

Anyway neither of us bothered to score so we called it quits at the turn around. Only the second time we've ever not completed a round (and the other time was at the same course) but sometimes you have to run away to fight another day :)

No golf this weekend :(

We had some snow Thursday night and although it was only a covering the low temps means it's hung around on open land. Given today's sun it's possible some golf courses will be open tomorrow but not the one we had booked. Plus my mate has a sore throat so we're missing our first weekend :(

No more for me.

Started playing 18 holes last year so this was my first winter season.

47F and everybody was out.

Took 2.5 hours to finish 9 hole.

Gave up on 18 and went home for Super Bowl.

played par 65 on Super Bowl Sunday. 50˚ F with 15-20mph winds, super soft conditions with rain the night before. Tee balls falling off on tee boxes. 3iron got a lot of attention that day. Surprisingly came home at +8 with the previous 2 rounds at +6 on spring/summer weather. I would definitely like to play in those types of conditions more. Makes club selection more important than pulling stock club for stock yardages. Ive never experience having to pull 9 iron at 120 yards to the green, when on a normal day it would be a full 50˚ wedge or easy PW. Probably only caught 6 people on 27 hole course that day. Fun times!!

Rye Hill again today. Slightly warmer at 9c but very windy - must've gusted over 40mph at times. The course was also quite damp as it had rained a lot overnight. Unfortunately whilst I can't claim that the wind pushed my balls off target (hard to tell at my handicap :-/ ) the roaring in my ears was distracting. Half way round my mate got called back to work (he's an anaesthetist) so I stopped scoring and did some work on my swing for the rest of my round.

It produced some good results but nothing I could really take to the bank. Still, at least I got some fresh air. Rather more than I was expecting at times :)

Yesterday (Sat) was overcast and 11c and I shot a 92 at my club. Today started sunny but clouded over and reached 13c. I scored a 94 but that included an 8 on one par four and an unfortunate recovery from woods on a par 5 that cost me two shots.

So I'm continuing my run of playing to my handicap which considering the conditions bodes very well for the coming season.

No frost delay for our Men's Club event (Oregon), but we did have a bit of snow, freezing rain, and hail during the round. Less uncomfortable than it sounds. Precip was usually without wind and vice versa.

Fun format for a soggy cool day... one man scramble, use 9 of your first drives, no mulligans, string, etc. Just one do-over on approaches and putts and half your tee shots. Quicker than you might think, too.

Got in two rounds week before last. Thursday was nice, up to nearly 50F. Friday morning it was 47F at 5am. By 10:30am it had dropped to 33 and was blowing like hell. Looking at the forecast I knew it was my last chance for a while, so I went out. Walked 18 in a bit over two and a half hours, was 29 when I finished and mud was freezing to my clubs. Hardly needs to be said I was the only one out there.

Managed another round this past Friday, not all that cold by comparison. I’d happily play a frozen course but the superintendent closes it.

Played yesterday, high got to about 38, felt like 28. Was sunny for the first hole, starting dripping ice cold rain the the 18th green, so the timing was perfect

Wore everything in my closet and had a cart heater.

Played a sixsome, skins only, didn't keep score.

Loads of fun, won $40.

Took a 2 hour, 185 degree shower when I got home.

Great weekend.

Started at 35 deg, but hit a high of 41 yesterday. Breezy and recovering from a soaking the day before. Shot an 86. Thought I played well, but did not putt well. Not blaming the punched and top dressed greens. It was all on me..
