US v Euro TV Coverage - what learnings should they take from each other ?

I enjoy watching coverage on both sides of the pond but one thing in particular has started to bug me.

 

The Euro coverage shows shot tracers but doesn't post any of the data behind it such as ball speed which I find irritating as this is increasingly shown in the US coverage

 

As an example it would have been interesting to compare Li and Dustins numbers last weekend and also Grant Fox's speeds which are supposed to be rivalling Champ

 

However the Euro coverage does show a good graphic of where and how far each players drive has ended up relative to the other players in their group. This would be great in US coverage - especially when there are big hitting 3 balls drawn together. Also the US coverage often shows shots out of sequence which further confuses things

 

Again this would have been good last weekend - certainly and Champ's 3 ball but also in the final 3 ball on Sunday Thomas v Fowler

 

Interested to hear thoughts on this and any other learnings that the tours should take from each other in their coverage

I don't believe or perhaps more accurately, question the accuracy of the ball speeds that they are showing us. Judging my last week everyone was hitting it so that ball speed was between 178 and 180 mph. No way that is the case. The carry distances that they were showing seemed to be all over the place as well. I like having the info but I question how valid the info is.

Amusing how creative the US coverage is, they show a commentator sitting in a dark booth, watching the coverage on a monitor (TV) and briefs us on what we are seeing, which is exactly the same video they are viewing. But a jump in faith is believing any comments as being correct concerning Rules, many don't have a clue.

+ the CEOs of the title sponsor. Having to watch them get their 5 minutes of facetime instead of watching golf is what bothers me most about US coverage. Closely followed by the "vignettes" which don't have any information value whatsoever, like the Fedex player's advantage or whatever it is called. In general, the constant need to tell stories and to invent some sort of narrative like in a soap opera is unbearable in US coverage.

What can the US learn from Euro coverage?

 

Well, for starters, that Rich Beem shouldn't be allowed near a microphone.

Euro camera peeps still really need to get better at following shots in flight and picking up on landing areas. That coverage is abysmal at times.
