Phil Mickelson SWITCHES BACK -- to what?

Recommended Posts

While hardly listening to Golf Channel's "pre-game" this morning, I heard someone say that Phil came out this year with a new driver. And he quickly realized it wasn't cutting it so a week or two back he returned to last year's driver.

I'm guessing that he dumped the new Epic Flash (Sub Zero) for an edition of the 2018 Epic or Rogue. Can anyone provide accurate details?

Thanks!

Phil needs a g400 max. Never has there been an all time great player who was a worse and more erratic driver of the golf ball. Whatever he plays, I'll avoid. Haha

I love Phil but get scared watching whenever he has a pressure tee shot and pulls out the driver. Maybe he should watch his X Hot 3 Deep video again. I wonder if he was losing a bit of clubhead speed (seems back this year though) and was too far back (either courses longer or all competition hitting it farther) to stick with it.

I get the whole strokes gained stats, but even Tiger supposedly added loft and took something off his swing to get the ball in play late last year.

Funny how part of Callaway’s goal in the 5 year war was to reduce customer confusion and here they are confusing everyone in thinking the rogue is an older driver when it’s a separate release from rogue and rogue is only about 1/2 wat thru it’s release cycle. But they did it with epic when rogue came out.

Guess the boys from TM are reverting back to old ways just now under the Callaway umbrella

Yes, but Tiger would somehow win inspite of it. Phil left some big wins out there due to his wayward driver.

It’s not about length. His rogue is a pretty specialized to him , head. It has a huge weight made for the hosel area etc. lots of talk here about it. And we all saw how great and straight he hit it at the bob hope with the rogue and how crooked he hit it at the waste management with the new flash. They will build him a flash that works. But for now he would have to be nuts to ditch that rogue head. He hits it too good

And we all saw how great and straight he hit it at the bob hope with the rogue

55% of fairways hit at the Hope is great? Even with a 13/13 round of driving accuracy this week Phil is only at 59% of fairways hit during the AT&T with the Rogue. 13/13, 6/14, 7/14, 6/13 in 4th round with 1 driver hole to go. There is a reason Phil is ranked 220th in driving accuracy on the PGA Tour coming into the AT&T. It's not the driver he is playing. For all of the deserved grief Tiger gets for his tee shot accuracy what's overlooked by many is that statistically Phil is a worse driver of the golf ball than Tiger over their respective careers. It's really a testament to their skills to have been as great as they are with such bad driving.

For Phil ? That’s blanking outstanding !!! I mean it’s super good.

We have to put stats into perspective. His scrambling is top notch. As well as putting. He’s proven twice recently that 55% fairways + Phil = winning or at least contending baring some newbies clutch shot pulled from his back pocket.

If Phil wants to win the US Open at Pebble, he should go back to the mini driver that he used when he won the Open Championship, the Scottish Open and finished tied 2nd at Merion in 2013.

Pebble is going to play fast and firm in June; Phil won't have the luxury of keeping drives in the fairway because of soft fairways. He'll hit it straighter with the mini driver.

My $.02.

I was wondering this too given the course overall is not that long. Maybe just hit more 3 woods (or 3 Deep if he puts it back in the 3 wood slot) instead. Holes 2, 8, and 9 aren't exactly short, and no driver at all would likely remove any chance to get on/around the green on 14 and 18 though.

The Rogue is a legit driver

And still a current release despite the flash being released

Yeah Callaway is a bit confusing in that way. When the Rogue came out they said it wasn't an Epic replacement and they are saying the Flash isn't a Rogue reaplacement, so who knows...?

they're technically two separate "lines." like M5 and M6. next year i imagine the rogue replacment will be released while epic flash will have one more year of product cycle left.

Correct except. M5/6 are same release cycle where rogue and epic epic flash are on different release cycles. Epic flash technically replaced epicand not the rogue but they way Callaway has marketed rogue and now epic flash many non forum golfers thinks the rogue replaced the epic and epic flash replaced rogue

He was wild too, but not like Phil. No single great player was more likely to blow a tournament on 18 tee by letting his ego get in the way of his brain and pulling driver. Tiger at least knew when to start hitting 2 irons.
