Hosung Choi @ AT&T

Can't believe CBS pretty much didn't show him play at all today. But he did get the Minolta treatment. I might have blinked and missed his tee shot on 13. Was it on? I looked away a second, saw Jerry Kelly do his walkthrough, then came the usual Choi laugh track with shots from Thursday.

Back to the cup of noodles tour.... And into oblivion. He was in over his head, but good for him to play it to the max and have fun.

HSC +9 JB Holmes +9.

Oblivion? Guarantee it’s not going to be a 15 min thing. He is doing fine in Asia.

LOL, because he tied JB Holmes who played terrible?

It was nice to invite him, but was just for entertainment which didn't pan out, hope he had a good time. Look forward to him earning his way into bigger tournaments.

Don't understand why Choi was getting so much abuse from media types on Golf Channel, etc. like he was some kind of sideshow. He has at least accomplished something as a professional unlike a lot of sponsor's exemptions (cough, Dru Love, cough).

I didn't really get the backlash either, especially from the "Why not a Web.com or other upcoming player?" angle.

When the invite was given, Choi's OWGR ranking was above plenty of guys who an invite wouldn't have drawn any backlash at all (Harrington, Schneiderjans, Beef).

Young Australian pro, Ryan Ruffels, who happens to share the same agent as countryman Jason Day, got an invite as well. He missed the cut after shooting -1 in his three rounds. His sponsors invite also generated a bit of consternation because he's taken 19 of them so far since turning pro at 17 in 2015.

His OWGR is what it is, but just proves OWGR overvalues his results and needs some review for how it evaluates some other tours.

I always get the sense Asian players are obviously more comfortable playing at home as are US players in the states.

You will always be more consistent in an environment and atmosphere you are comfortable, such as the language, people, food and obviously course conditions.

Jumbo Ozaki is an example of this. He has beaten many top international players at home but his record away is quite poor for his calibre.

Given Ho-Sung Choi is 45 and it was his first trip to the US, people shouldn't underestimate his ability. He probably struggled with the bomb and gouge approach to US golf.
