Bryson dechambeau...anyone changing their setup and swing due to his success?

If he wanted to , couldn't one suspect he'd be just as successful using other swing styles with different length clubs (he looks quite an athlete)?

Nope. He doesn't want to golf any other way. His mind wouldn't let him.

He is the original DBOM golfer. (Design, build, operate, maintain.)

He has confidence in operating the system he built and designed.

He knows how to maintain it, and when it breaks (which it has) he has shown he can fix it.

I think it's similar to a sharpshooter's "aim small, miss small" mentality.

Bryson stole my specific armlock technique of standing the shaft up nice and vertical, so that means I am the master and he is but the apprentice.

Two things I pretty much know to be true.

1. There are people on this site that are smarter than Bryson.

2. There is no one on this site that is better at golf than Bryson.

35 years ago, my cousin and I were discussing Moe Norman and his unique golf swing. My cousin dismissed Moe as a savant. Nothing to do with Moe's personality; just his golf swing.

Now, 35 years later, we have another savant. Except this one can putt.

Moe won over 50 tournaments in Canada. I think he could putt

I wonder about that also. Why couldn’t he win on the PGA tour? What we read is he had putting woes here. Was the greens here so much different between Canada and the USA???

Well he only played a few months on tour. His last event was New Orleans, finished t4, chased him off the tour pretty much after that. He had no money when started playing the tour, use to sleep in his car or bunkers, guys hated the way he dress and talked. He didnt like taking caddies, used to tee the ball really high. He just wasnt what the tour wanted. So they got rid of him

He has a one plane swing correct? I feel like that would be more beneficial than one length

Still a little unsure what that actually means? Is it the clubshaft, arms, clubhead or some combination all sitting on some inclined plane?

There are some different definitions out there for one vs two plane swing.

In this case, we are talking about Bryson "setting up" on the plane he will be on at impact.

Here's a pretty good comparison of a one vs two plane swing;

Many thanks , so 'single plane' is basically the clubshaft aligned on a specific inclined plane from a DTL view (most of the time from address to impact). So Mr Junge is claiming that swinging on a single plane will mean less bending of the spine (as demonstrated on that video)?

Yes, single plane is setting up on your impact plane from a DTL view.

It doesn't have to necessarily mean less bending at setup (because you could bend more at setup if you had the ball further away like Moe Norman)

But that whatever bend you have at setup is the bend you maintain thru impact because you have setup on your impact plane.

So the greatest benefit he's claiming, is that you don't have to time your "lift" as you extend into impact.

For a conventional setup, doing the lift too early to get into your impact position is the "early extension" so many struggle with.

Do it too late and you have fat shot.

Setup on your impact position and you don't have to worry about it. Just maintain that same bend throughout the swing.

Dechambeau doesn't have a lot of bend because he likes to setup closer to the ball.

Kirk Junge's setup is the same way.

Both setup on what will be the impact position for them.
