Jordan Speith worse drought is yet to come

Recommended Posts

Spieth is 4 shots ahead of his playing partner DJ. The premise of this thread is busted just on that fact. His putter has been great. Just wild with a brand new driver.(TS3) That's it.

Choo getting defensive. I told you this would get better come Sunday. Hope Jordan goes on a run. Will be time for a Choo run as well.

YJS did not miss the short puts that Spieth has missed this week. YJS did not slide down the leaderboard the way he has this week. Being four up on DJ after three rounds does not a comeback make. He needs a good finish soon or the mental will continue to creep in. Four events this season and t55-MC-MC-t35.

But you forget he had one great round at the Masters 10 months ago.

He was also 54 hole co leader at the british open last year...

Hell man. That was a limited field event. What has he done in a full field event ? Lol

( did I get that right ? Isn’t that the mantra of the huge fan / tough love crowd? )

You’re getting close Blade, I bet another 20,000 posts and you’ll be there}

Based on YJS's weekend rounds I have two thoughts

Danny Choo is the love child of Stephen Hawking and is an incredible golf prognosticator

Or, he's the ginger step-brother to HomBomb and Jones Scott

He needs to study some Andrew Dice Clay for rhyming teaches ... Hickory dickory dock

I state my case from the beginning and doubled down with Spieth in first place. Spieth performance is painful to watch, absolutely brutal. Should he fire Michael Greller? Absolutely not and if he does it would be detrimental to his career. Does he need a new swing coach change? No! What Spieth needs is to sit down and retract his steps to what made him a star. The passion, the days when there was no endorsements, the intensity he had when he had no money and his old SUV. Last but not least, throw that TS2 driver in a river and what ever new club is in your bag. Equipment does not make you win, talent does. In all honesty I feel bad for the guy because he is a great guy who loves his family and does much good for many. It was never personal with JS but it is evident he is on a down hill spiral.

Getting pretty personal Choo. “ old suv”. How do you know what he drove ? Old teammate ? Maybe school acquaintance ?

I haven't been following Spieth closely but it's definitely tough when Clint Eastwood calls out your decline from the TV booth.

I’d suggest fighting Clint Eastwood, but even at 100 years old he’s still scary.

Yes those were tough times, attending an expensive private prep school, going to UT, and being in a position to simply drop out... it's almost as harrowing an environment as Pat Perez. smh

As long as he's sitting down. With his trousers pulled up to his armpits he loses some of the menace of the Man with No Name era.

You forgot to mention how much the game has “evolved” since 2015 and that everyone must have been “tired” and thinking about the Ryder Cup.

I miss the days where we actually were expected to support the players we liked and not write critical analyses of their entire career when they make a bogey.

At&t pro am is over. Spieth is in the Genesis open this week. How does he finish?

Choo- he place within the top 40 but does not make the top 10

so youre taking 10th through 40th? what does that leave anyone else to choose? get off the fence... does he crash or improve?

I have Spieth to finish 20th an improvement from last week. If he does not shoot better than -4 Thursday I see him having another bad week

Yea. I’d agree top 20. If he doesn’t catch fire and win.

That’s how this works you know. Down in the dumps. Until.... somehow the powder is lit and boom. Off to the races.

25YearOldJordan Speith's biggest problem was that he was successful in the most inopportune period in professional golf. The PGA Tour was DESPERATE for a new face, as everyone thought that Tiger was done, Phil was fading, DJ was on booger sugar, and McIlroy and Day didn't pique the interest of American golf fans. But here comes Jordan Speith, straight from Central Casting, ready to give hope to tournament hosts and sponsors throughout the industry. Dude got hot with the putter and made EVERYTHING for an insane period of time, even though his golf swing was akin to Charles Barkley's golf swing mixed with Bill Cartwright's free throw form.

The 25YearOldJordan Speith we see now is the "real him:" a good, but not great, player that can get hot for a spell but lacks the fundamentals to be as dominant as his earlier success may have indicated. He's crooked off the tee with an inconsistent putter. He's Luke Donald with worse hair but a better marketing team.

The Jordan you saw then was real - it wasn't luck, lol, and you don't understand his golf swing at all.

He's not playing at the same level, but every day he plays it's the "real him". Golf is still hard and there is no rational comparison to Luke Donald at all. He's a singular talent, long ways to go in his career yet.

The pressure of manufacturers forcing you to play new equipment and Spieth struggles are documented with changes. Spieth has way to go and when his contract is up he should play as a free agent on tour. Play whatever he wants.

The talent is there but he is evidently loss. Cannot close out tournaments, falling back behind on weekends. He will recover but not right now, there is much work to be done.

His last two top 10 finishes were at the Open and the Masters. At least he's got a game that shows up when it matters most!

If it had shown up on Sunday at Carnoustie when it really matters he might have had a win.

Finished T9 after being tied for the lead going into the final round, its a stretch to say his game showed up when it matters most in that instance.

Considering he is playing older gear I’m not sure he’s being forced to play equipment and he’s been with titleist forever. You are grasping now

First paragraph was a very interesting take.

I think Spieth is definitely better than his current form but 2015 set an unrealistic benchmark so the reality is somewhere in between in terms of what Jordan is as a golfer. The last sentence is ridiculous, ignoring the irrelevant comments about hair and marketing Jordan Spieth is a significantly better golfer than Luke Donald.

You're correct - his swing is more like Hooters mixed with Popeye's Louisiana Kitchen:
