19 Apex Pro Vs. TM 760 vs. AP2 718 - Help please

I've got my 2019 Irons down to these final 3 irons.

I've hit them all but I need some help.

Coming from older AP2.

The AP2 are good at everything - Forgiving, long enough, good at everything but not great at anything.

The 19 Apex pro were 9 yards longer than Ap2 and felt / looked amazing. Liked the stock Elevate shaft. Forgiving enough. Didn't spin like AP2 though and not sure how my gapping will be.

The 760 look amazing at address and look awesome. But they might be a bit too demanding and might offer less distance than the others.

Has anyone compared these irons???

This to me is the problem with only having 7 irons to hit -- I wish it were say 5-irons AND 8-irons available so you could get a feel for both ends of the bag.

Apex 19 Pro spin was a concern on indoor sim, but watching flight yesterday it went plenty high to stop. 760 felt good, too. I didn't hit AP2, but thought the AP3 (in 6-iron) was a real winner.

I would go AP2s since you are familiar with their feel, distances and performance. #2 choice, Apex Pros.

I would go Apex Pro. I think they feel and look better, have enough forgiveness and spin just fine( I was seeing 6000 rpm with premium balls indoors off of mats). I wanted to love the AP2(still do), but we just don’t get along

I'm making the switch from 718 AP2s to the Apex Pros. The AP2s are amazing and, as you said, do everything extremely well. The Apex Pros just looked better and gave me more consistent results on mishits. The Apex Pros spun less, but I'm a high-spin player, so I actually liked that.

Coming from similar situation as the OP. Currently playing 716 AP2's and checked out the Apex Pro's. P760 were ok but I'm not a TM guy; I find it gimmicky that they release new products so often.

I was getting 9 yards more carry with the Apex Pro's as well including a toey strike. The Apex Pro's also felt a bit softer over the AP2. However I'm really comfortable with my game using the AP2's so if I were in the OP's position, I'd stay with the AP2's.

Cant speak to AP2 but I've hit both 760 and Apex Pro. 760 quite a bit actually as I Was fit into them when they first came out.

Both are soft feel but I have to say... I give that one on Apex Pro for sound/feel combo. Wit the $ Taper shafts it felt very nice... as soft as old school Mizuno forgings.

Looks... Going to go to P760. Subjectively, I find the satin finish on the 760's more appealing, and the 760 has a bit less offset than Apex Pro. Apex Pro is a touch shorter in blade length and other than maybe a bit more offset, looks like a true player's club. I just don't dig chrome. I'd rather get the smoke finish which should help hide a bit of that offset.

Performance... Pretty much a wash. Both are workable and have the same stock lofts. P760 is a hint more upright than the Apex Pros. I got fit into 760's 1* flat, while Apex Pro I'd probably just play them standard and work a small draw flight as my stock shot. On the simulator though I was hitting cuts with ease.

Overall, it's a VERY tough call. The smoke finish on Apex will run you an extra like... $300 or something for 4-PW and my Modus 120X is an upcharge (although I think it may be with 760's, too). So if price is of concern, I'd go 760's. If price is not an issue or you don't mind the chrome finish, Apex Pro's just edge it out for me due to incredible feel.

throw in MP18 SC and im in your boat.

Get rid of the 760. I found them hard to hit consistently.

AP2 are amazing overall i've played them for 10 years. But nothing plays like a mizuno iron.

My coach Plays the p760s and he told me that these require some skill to play. I am not quite there yet, so the p760s are out for me. I have hit bothe the Apex pros and the Ap2s. I like both of them, and I am having a hard time deciding between the two. I want to make sure a make the right choice ;).

IMO, your logic is questionable. Callaway leads all others in releasing new product.

His logic isn’t questionable when it comes to the Apex line. I’d be willing to bet the p760 will be long gone before this APEX version is updated

So i was in the same predicament btw Apex and new APs. I went today and hit them with my current APs(712). I saw no gains at all. Other than the Apex was a stronger loft so there was artificial distance in the 7i s that i was using. My current 712 7i is carry 165, 170-173ish total. So, while I love the look of the new APs I dont see a reason yet to switch...

I may go back in Spring when my swing is dialed in and get properly fit and see if there is a dif. Good Luck!

I personally am a fan of the P760 or Apex Pro 19 over the AP2. Going back to the very first AP2, I've found I just hit that specific iron to the moon and with far too much spin. I've tried all kinds of different shaft combinations and just can't find anything that works well for me with the AP2. I'm sure they're fine irons for most, but they have never worked for me.

Nothing is safe in my bag!

I just went thru the same process, throwing in the 0311t in the mix. Apex pro 19’s ultimately won out for consistency of flight and spin when matched up with the elevate shaft. The AP2’s and PXG’s close behind, and p760 a distant 4th. Spin rates and feel were just off with the TM’s for me, but they look great.

I just went through an iron fitting and ended up with the APEX / APEX PRO combo 6-AW.

The deciding factor versus the all PRO set was the elevate 95 shaft which is not available in the non combo APEX PRO head (due to tip size).

The new apex clubs produced amazing launch and ball speed with decent spin. The feel blew me away!

The course is always taking spin away from you. It rarely gives it back. AP2 are the most playable players clubs for golfers that aren't super human PGA pros. I'll probably keep buying AP2 over and over again because they just work. If you're a decent golfer you can play them until the big leagues. The benchmark IMO.

If you can't make your mind up over these three, then don't play any of them. It will get in your head and ruin your golf for years. You will end up at the end of the range with at least 3 game improvement gadgets everytime you hit a ball. I'll pick for you if you wish, but instead you could go to one of those people with funny hats and crystal balls.

  • 4 months later...

i have 718 AP2's now and love them. stumbled on a demo day with trackman outside and hit the apex pros with S-Taper shafts. Instant love. with 7 iron i got 10 yard more distance with higher ball flight, same effort and just felt wonderful. ball speed jumped almost 5 miles just crazy ? not switching immediately but my gosh they were easy to hit.
