Whats the story on your most rollercoaster round?

To start, on Friday I shot 73 (+1) with 3 pars, 9 bogeys, 4 birdies and 2 eagles. Finished birdie, eagle on 17/18.

I once shot a 75 without making a par until the 15th hole.

4 birdies, an eagle, and 9 bogeys.

Than of course, parred in

I now have 3 79s to my credit, two of which included a triple and two doubles. Even par the other 15 holes (both with a couple of birds and a couple of bogeys). My other 79 was all pars / bogeys with one birdie and somewhat “boring”.

On all 3 of them, I stood on the 18th tee with a chance to go lower (on two of them just needed a bogey and got my bogey)...on one of them I tripled it for my first 79.

3 doubles, 3 bogies, 1 par and 2 hole-out eagles in a 9-hole match.

Quite the eventful 9 holes there.

Started +5 thru 3, then played the next 13 holes -1. Got to hole 17 and realized the stretch I was on and proceeded to crap the bed with a 9. Bogeyed 18 for an 80. Solid.

Also another memorable round was where I had 3 birdies, and eagle, 2 doubles, 8 bogeys. Ended with a 79.

Then there are the rounds where I couldn't strike it any better, drop a couple birds while missing at least 3 other very makeable ones and end up with something in low to mid 70s, which had the potential for so much more.

Golf man.

  • 3 weeks later...

74 with two doubles and a triple. I had no idea what was going to happen on any hole. Spent the day either chunking chips or chipping in, 3 putting or making 50 footers. Just completely random.

Bad rounds a plenty for me lately. But golf is a typical addiction.

There I am walking up onto 17 tee fully convinced that these last two holes of suffering will be my last for awhile. I will get this round over with, pay my losses and perhaps take up bowling or corn hole. And then, almost predictably, I hit a perfect drive, perfect layup, stiff a wedge to a foot and have a tap in birdie.

Now granted 18 was bad too but did I mention that I birdied 17?

And of course I have tee times this weekend....

Just one taste and you are hooked.

So rollercoaster round? Not in my case. Not really. More like a merry-go-round with that irritating music for the most part with the occasional wow moment.

But I have to admit.

Better to have a mostly crappy round than to not be able to play.

Man golf is like life. Good grief...….

At Notts Hollinwell in England (final Open qualifying venue) I started off with a 7. Pulled myself together after the first hole nerves and followed this up with 17 holes at level par.

I've also played the course I'm a member at and went through the first 6 holes at or around level par, and then hit 4 out of bounds in a row. Ended up carding a 11 and walked off.

I dont usually have rollercoaster rounds. It's usually play well till 11 or 12 then I start making mistakes. Most likely due to getting tired.

I do however have a problem with playing consistently well. I shot a 68 one day, then 4 days later shot a 96. I looked at swings on video from those two rounds and they looked very different. Mental craziness...

I've had a few rollercoaster roads.

Once shot 72 with 19 putts.

Then another round I shot 71.

Front 9. Birdie, birdie, bogey, bogey, birdie, birdie, bogey , bogey, birdie.

All pars on the back.

We got to 16 and the GM of my club starting giving trash because I hadn't had a birdie in forever. Won some good skin money that day too.

I was around an 18 HC at this time so it felt ridiculous: after the turn I had a bogey free nine by shooting 4 double bogeys and 5 pars. One of which was a hole in one for par after sending the first ball OB into the highway.

I'm very similar. Our course is hilly and by 10 I've had enough of carrying my pencil bag and the mental side of the game goes. Once I lose my head it's difficult to recover, especially when tired. I can play consistently well for 9 no problem, turning in level par quite a lot of the time. The back 9 is a lot tougher as well which doesn't help scoring.

I started the front 9 at +6, then went on a stretch of 6 birdies and 3 pars on the back 9, ended up even at the end of the day, won some lunch from my playing partners...lol, crazy game we love!!!
