Figured I could contribute my current gamers. Can't find pictures of my previous set but gave the same treatment of removing the badges/stripping to a set of '07 X Forged that I still have dreams about.

 

 

 

Those xforged is exactly what I want to do to my AP2s how did you do it exactly? Did you bead blast?

 

Just brought the heads to a local metal shop and had them do a strip if the Chrome/Nickle layers. I enjoy the rust so just let them sit out after a couple early morning rounds to get the color to where it is now.

 

Did you have the faces taped or no?

I did not. The original reason I started stripping my irons down to raw was to remove some of the weight in the head to account for over my heavy and over length shafts so wanted to get all the weight out that I could. I definitely noticed a slightly quicker deterioration on the grooves on my previous set compared to leaving the chrome finish though.

My Wishon Sterling SL irons are on the way back from Oughton Golf. Here is a quick before and after. So stoked... Doug did a great job.

 

These will be paired with my Vokey raw black wedges.

No.. no metal was removed minus the plating so from what I've read maybe 3-5 grams? I'll check when they return but I assume it won't be a weight is even notice.

Continental does Raw Refinishes on Irons? Didn't know that.

 

They've done work on 5 or 6 metal woods of mine, but never thought about the irons!

 

They stripped my heads, but I do not believe they will re-chrome.

 

If you've had clubs refinished in the past you know how easy Justin, Stuart and the 'crew' are to work with.

 

Not the least expensive out there but I would rather spend a few extra dollars to receive their quality work and exceptional customer service.

 

Oh yeahhh! Love those guys!

 

I wouldn't do any rechroming. Just a strip raw. Didn't know they offered that. Would be nice to work with fellas I'm familiar with during this process (first timer).

 

I have a set of Miura 501s that should be coming back to me soon. Sent them to Golfworks to have them stripped (they outsource, but it's $10/head).

How are you getting on with these? I am really tempted after spotting them on tourspecgolf last night. I have done a bit of wedge grinding in the past but this would be next level. Those ferrules would look great with these.

Yes i noticed that, i didn't send them to Portugal though, i think a friend got them for him in the UK

 

The only thing i didn't like was the offset, seemed to be quite a bit for a players club, but they did look really good

Just had these stripped. Still not very rusty after about a month, but winter came early so I've only played once or twice.

 

You should do white paint fill and then spray some water on them to speed up the process.

Typical chrome process has a nickel layer underneath the chrome (the chrome layer is transparent). If they didn't remove the nickel, they may not develop any rust for a long time.
