What’s with this shaft?

Believe it or not Northwestern(don’t know if they’re still in business) had a wedge shaft like that back in the 70’s or early 80’s. Also Aldila had a graphite shaft called the Aldila One back in the 90’s(it wasn’t a very good shaft as I recall) that was shaped like that. I believe it is supposed to give better control over the flex point of the shaft.

Interesting to see Tommy Fleetwood with Ping G410 fairway wood. Obviously going through some testing to change out his old Nike equipment. Good to see so many mixed bags in play at the moment. always a better indication for me of what products are the real deal. Great pictures as always.

I don’t think so because everything I have read about the KBS CT Tour points to the shaft being stepless.

Northwestern actually used it in their Thunderbird metal driver in the 1980’s. My grandfather had one and I used it to win a local qualifier of the Ryder Pitch, Putt, and Drive as a junior golfer.

“It's known as a "power-kick" shaft, because the top 15 inches or so are very thick and the rest is normal. The effect is the "power-kick" that results in extra distance and better accuracy while the golfer does not have to swing as hard.”

Okay. My fading memory recalled it as a wedge shaft but at least I got the Northwestern part right. I don’t recall that it lasted very long. A few years maybe.

I wonder why TW is still using the M3 5-Wood instead of switching to the M5?

I thought he had switched to the M5 in the 5 wood. I know the pictures were taken during the practice round days at Torrey, and he did have an M3 then. For the tournament he put in an M5. Unless he changed it back for this week and I haven't noticed. He did say today that he put in a new 3 wood, haven't seen anything about what's different than a couple weeks ago.

DJ seems confused as to which putter to put in play. Seen him with a Spider X and a TM Newport type with the plumbers neck. I personally think he putts better with the mallet
