Did anyone notice that his M5 looked cracked in the Instagram photo that TM posted yesterday?! Looks like one of the flaps cracked off......

Can you post the pic without the big circle?

Looks perfectly fine to me. I took my M5 and simulated the same orientation and lighting the best I could.

You might be right...I wasn't certain....

But, if you look at the side that says "Taylormade" the carbon fiber (black part) extends to the end of the black "paint line" on all the heads I've seen. On the picture....the "flap" stops halfway there, before the paintline. I didn't catch it at first, ether but go look at a picture of a stock head and compare!

Also, look at the purple circle...inside there, you can see the flap that usually continues to the end of the section that is black carbon fiber....Rory's looks like the last section broke clean off....

I know exactly what you're looking at, but if there was a piece missing, the rest of the driver frame would look different than it does in the photo because there's no portion of the track frame under the presumed chip that looks like what we see. I'm convinced it's all shadows and perspective based on the way the light is hitting the sole in that shot.

EDIT: What you're seeing is a tee mark in the track that's within the shadow of the overhanging carbon fiber. The white paint from the tee mark is reflecting some ambient light, which makes it appear as though it's a piece of material and not just a portion of the shadow. I have another image that shows this a little better, but I'm unable to upload pics at the moment due to issues with my ClubWRX subscription.

I doubt its really broken but i looked at this and then your picture and I do see it, probably just the angle or lighting or something.

However, it does look like something is missing to be honest, especially next to this picture, in the rory pic seems like material is missing next to the orange line.

I spoke to someone who saw the driver in person this week. There is no chip or other defect on the sole.

Here's another image from Riv. It's still not easy to see, but I've annotated it with what I believe you're actually seeing. Note: the image compression on this site kills the annotations I made, so you may have to tap on the image to see it a little bigger.

Bottom line: It does look like there's something going on there, but what's happening is that the tee marks in the shadow are tricking the eyes.

Rors is playing Tigers P7TW irons, so cool!

??? No, he's playing P730s. The retail P730 shaping was based mostly on the RORS Protos, so there's really not much difference between the two. He's definitely not playing P-7TW.

Would definitely be interesting if it were the case! I am curious if anyone else on staff switches over to the TWs.

Do you know what shaft was in that club? I know he used to play Rombax and Tensei white, but it didn't look like either of those. The Tensei white was used in his driver though.

It’s still a Tensei White just with the retail paint job. Not sure why they went with that.

Has anyone else tried going one flex weaker in a long iron like Rory has (i.e. he's dropping down to a 6.5 in the two iron)? Curious folks' results if they have, I've been toying with the idea of going with a C Taper S+ in a P790.

i did it when I was playing C Tapers X. My X were soft stepped. It produced a lot better feel of the head. the X required me to swing at 95% every time when I like to swing about 92% with my irons. The S+ allowed me to do that.

I wish I knew my swing well enough to know the difference between a 95% and 92% swing.
