718 Ap2 Vs 19' Apex Pro

I've only hit the Apex Pro on a launch monitor. I was getting 9 yards more carry over the AP2. Comparing fitting heads with the 716 and 718 AP2's, I thought the Apex was about the same blade length but slimmer lines. I've been gaming 716 AP2 for a while and have been tossing around CB's.

Looking at bad strikes, I was getting little to no distance loss on toey hits with the Apex where AP2's got a good drop off. However the Apex was about 200 RPM lower spinning than the AP2 overall. I liked the Apex Pro but I don't have any interest in leaving Titleist. Call me a fanboy but I'm comfortable with the performance I get with AP2's and would really only go to another set of them or play with CB's.

Agreed. The distance thing I wasn't seeing in my testing, but really distance when comparing these types of irons is minimal, a real non factor IMO. Heck I was playing the CF16 for two years and the distance was crazy as well as crazy inconsistent, the 718 AP2 have given me good distance and even better distance control. The new APEX I saw more consistent distances but again on a simulator as I am in Ohio so no outdoor data yet.

Apex Pro, Elevate X: 5400

AP2, DG X100: 6300

Could that elevate shaft have something to do with the lower spin number? Anyone know how it profiles off hand? Surprised they're going with a made for shaft in the pros.

That’s not a made for shaft. It’s True Temper’s new offering. A shaft made to increase spin to combat these lower spinning iron heads.

Thanks for correcting that. Honestly I assumed based on the name, but looked it up after seeing your response.

The extra context is helpful.

Hit the Apex Pro today and was disappointed with the feel.

718 AP2 continues the series of irons that set the standard in a combination of looks, feel, and forgiveness!

every iron gets compared to the AP2 because the AP2 is the gold standard. Others come and go

This seems to be the case, but I will say the Apex pro irons have a super loyal following as well. I will say that they are both great looking irons, and they both seem to perform great, which makes my decision difficult :/.

What was your main gripe with the feel? Clicky?

It felt “clicker” than the AP2, not bad, but not as good. I hit last years X forged and as I recall it felt softer.

x forged of 18 are sweet and can be had for cheaper or shall I say more reasonable. The cult of the AP2 is long and for good reasons, Titleist has created a iron that offers greatness across the board in all areas for many of handicaps.

How do you find the "feel" of Ap2s compared to the Apex pros?

Not being bias to the AP2 but the feel is better less "clicky" for sure. IMO the cf16 felt better than the 19 Pros. But ultimately the 718 AP2 is better than both of them. Not sure if you read my other posts, but I have been playing the Cally CF16 for two years and loved them. This year I felt a switch is needed and went back to AP2's (718) after many indoor fitting sessions including the new Cally line. I have played on and off AP2 since they first came out and always loved them but also loved to tinker like most of us!

  • 4 months later...

im late to this post but i hit the Apex Pro 19 at a demo day with a trackman. 10 yards more with a 7 iron with apex and they felt like butter. i love the no offset. i love my ap2's as well but seriously thinking about making a move. fitter put a kbs S-taper 120 in there and that was gold. trying to hold off and not make an emotional decision. !
