Club Pro Guy

Poor Posture

Recommended Posts

I could care less "who" this guy is frankly but I sure know he has been a club pro at a private course because I can recognize the standard behaviors that go along with the position, especially his fixation on "corporate outings" that tie the private course up for too many afternoons in our short seasons. These things are killer events for the club management (the banquets) and for the club pro--the tee prizes and equipment sales but we members, based on keeping our annual costs down, suffer in silence--except for me and a couple of other old f@rts who don't have a lot of time left for corporate outing delays.

I also can relate to the "I don't want to hear about your putt on number two" and "unless you are going to tell me about the fine crotch shot on the beer cart girl, I'm not interested" is just some of the classic behaviors I have been subjected to with some eight to ten club pros we have had on our course the last 30 years.

Those observations were worth the price of the interview ticket in my book.

Definitely need more of this to remove the "stuffy, bourgeoisie" stigma that golf brings. I am surprised that Golf Channel has not reached out to him to do a half-hour show or even a 15 minute segment for their Pre-game show.

Him roasting Brandel for 5-minutes would be awesome

So I finally get my @CallawayGolf FTiQ driver dialed in and now they want me to buy a brand new model? No thanks.

You know how you keep from having to have corporate outings? Raise your dues.

You know how you retain a great pro? Pay him a decent salary aka raise your dues.

Trust me Club Pro Guy knows your type as well as you know his.

3. Anastasia Adams -If there was such a thing as a 5-Star beverage cart girl prospect, this is it. Anastasia has all the tools. The question is can she put them all together to become a complete player? Ana recently returned to Kansas City after working the last 2 years in Las Vegas as a private contractor in the 'late night' hospitality industry. She's hoping to re-establish roots here by finding a job that, in her words, has "consistent contact with married men and deals in large sums of cash with minimal to no oversight". A perfect description of this position! Although Anastasia's knowledge of golf is somewhat limited, she makes up for it by refusing to ever wear skorts. I hesitate to call her the favorite, but I really find Ana to be a strong candidate.

Not sure if I'm allowed to post pics, so won't, but Anastasia is definitely my front-runner for 2019 Beverage Cart Girl.

Although after re-reading all the applications, it seems Celeste might also be a strong candidate?

1. Tiffany Timmons - Our first finalist is from nearby Independence, MO. Tiffany is an aspiring dental hygienist assistant who's latest job as a hostess at Cheddar's fell victim to downsizing. Her interests include tanning, social media and her new IPhone X. Her favorite golf memory was seeing the hacked selfies Tiger Woods took of himself and sent to Lindsey Vonn. A serial entrepreneur, Tiffany understands and appreciates that 18 handicaps in cargo shorts want more out of their beverage cart girl than 8 Keystone lights and a friendly smile. They want flirtation that borders on prostitution. In one of our early interviews, Tiffany asked me how many of our members "liked to party". That type of go-getter attitude vaulted her in to my final four and I continue to expect great things from her throughout the remainder of this process.

Clearly this "pro" is an entertainer and, like Feherty, connects with golfers' funnybones. Know why? Because no one else is doing it. Plus he is good. I used to sell jokes to Golf Digest years ago--so did others, and golf stories to other magazines, like The New Yorker. Today, golf humor and fiction are all but gone. So happy someone (or two) are bringing it back!!!

What did you guys think?! It was very professional, almost like Rocco wasn’t aware of CPG’s greatness. Maybe this is CPG’s new format, aiming for the bigtimes.

But even though it was different, it was fantastic, as everything CPG does and says. To me, he raised the bar and showed he can interview for reals on the big stage. Very insightful, and he asks the questions I’d want to ask. I’m a fanboy for sure.

So with 8 interviews down, let’s have some fun and rank them!

1. Jay Don Blake - The Godfather of it all. Some of my first memories of golf were JDB warming up at the LA Open in the late 80s / early 90s, and Jody Mudd hitting 2 iron off the 10th tee at Riv. No idea why those things stuck with me. CPG knows what I’m talking about.

2. Steve Scott - ...the only talk between me and Tiger was me telling him “great shot” ... yep

3. Smylie - “You we’re breaking 80 almost with regularity. I mean...you went 76, 80 at the Farmers; 77, 81 at Bay Hill; 80, 79 at Quail Hollow, which is a damn tough golf course; and then finally, you open with a 79 at Greenbier before withdrawing with the elbow - How tough was it to walk away from the Tour when you were playing so well?

4. Rocco - Love Tiger stories

5. Guy Yokom - Doug Sander’s put out a hit on himself

6. Kizzz - great sense of humor on Kisner

7. Jerry Foltz - thought Foltz would be looser

8. Scott Parel- but enjoyed the respect CPG gives the guy

There's nothing I'm interested in on TV tonight, so was for some reason watching a replay of '92 US Open that Kite won in dominate fashion. I either never realized, or somehow forgot, Jay Don Blake finished with a solid tie for 6th, only 7 shots back! Just goes to show is not off his rocker when selecting his top golfers of all time.

His stuff is pure gold. Did anyone catch his video at the AT&T? He barges into the Callaway van and asks the guy if they can re-shaft his Lynx chipper.

CPG is awesome.

I was worried about his podcast when I first saw it pop into my feed. I thought it would just be him doing his same old routine, but I think his interviews are some of the best in the podcast world - they are entertaining, insightful and have some great stories.
