'Very odd that they altered the course based on "feedback". I could see moving some tees forward based on changing weather forecasts, but not complaints from the players. 'Kind of defeats the purpose of practice rounds, no?

Most players would want a fair set up, I think, if the body setting up the course got enough complaints they would seriously look at them and where the specific problems are. They dont want to run into a US Open type situation where the course is playing extremely difficult and then weather or just time causes them to lose control of it. Par doesnt really matter in the grand scheme of stroke play, but psychologically it has a big impact. Having an already difficult par 4 that requires a good drive and long iron/hybrid/wood to reach but is already firm and unholdable is a kick to the crotch, add in bad weather conditions and it just becomes a problem. I think the organizers also want a good showing from the players, its not meant to be a US Open where its brutally difficult and a grind.

On another note, since everyone seems to be so knowledgeable here, what exactly happened to Paula Creamer? I just got back into golf last year and she was my favorite female golfer and she seems to have fallen off the face of the planet in terms of competitiveness.

Not sure how far back you go. Her play since her last win in 2014 has been steadily declining. She got married and then divorced, neither of which is probably great for one's game. She's also late-20s to early-30s years old and has been playing competitive golf for a long time. My guess is some combination of burnout, lost focus, and interested in other things in life. It's hard to keep it going at a high level for so long.
