Mizuno MP-54 irons

I have a backup brand new set of Mizuno MP-54 irons. Still relevant or should I suck it up and buy the MP-18 irons. My gamers are P790s. Not able to test out irons where I live.

I still game a set, great irons. Have been gaming them for around 4 years I think. 3 iron is really easy to hit, it’s my favorite club in my bag

I picked up a new MP-54 (3-pw) set last March, absolute pleasure to hit these irons. I have no desire to change anytime soon, the feel is amazing. I'm actually thinking about buying a back up set to have just in case.

I don’t think any Mizuno MP irons go out of date.

I picked up MP-54s at the end of last season, still relevant but be aware the yardage gaps will be tighter. P790 has a 30.5° 7i, and MP-54 has a 30° 6i. So you’ll have an extra club in the scoring irons and have to drop a long club or specialty wedge. (If you regularly play 14 clubs) At least this is what I’ve found with MP-54 compared to stronger lofted irons sets I’ve played.

Saying all that, you’d have the same issue with MP-18 or MP-18 SC. The latter being the more direct comparison, I preferred the 54s head to head. The 18 MBs are stunning, and more forgiving than you’d think.

Love what Lee did. Has me thinking I should pull out my cut muscle MP67’s with Nippon 1150GH shafts! The short irons in that set are so good around the greens. Can hit any shot.

 

MP54 is perfectly fine to play and will be for a long time. Those long irons are easy to elevate.

I actually just hit the AP2 6i next to my MP54 6i on a trackman. Those MP54's are not leaving my bag anytime soon....
