2019 Taylormade Spider X

I just rolled a copper one in a store. Noticed it rattled when I moved the head to address. Weird. Also, IMHO, the white line is too narrow...not sure why they didn't make it the width of a ball...like odyssey does. Pass.

TaylorMade worked with a university to dial in the optimal sight line to the human eye and found that golfers found the center of the club face most consistently with a sight line that's half the size of a golf ball.

Just tried one during lunch. They didn't have a face balanced left-handed, so I tried one with flow neck. Feels good (made 4 out 5 putts of 20 feet), copper looks amazing. The insert does feel firmer, but the roll on the ball is great.

On the flow neck, you see the white insert a lot, which for me is a bit distracting. I took a right-handed face balanced and you barely see the face. I'm gonna wait for them to get a left-handed and give it another go. But I'm liking what I'm seeing so far.

I thought I’d love the tuttle but after trying it a few times it’s not for me. The spider on the other hand felt much more stable and I like the insert better than the odyssey. However, not sure if i like the price tag. I personally think they nailed it with the shape this year.

I was going to state this as well. There's actually been some research into the size of that white alignment band, as well as the curvature of the half circle toward the rear of the white band (it's the same radius as a golf ball).

Believe the studies came from the University of Indiana with students studying perception and ocular tracing.

Also, shipping confirmation came through a while back. Pumped about that. Navy, single sight line, flow neck-spec'd up for me. Ill be able to stop constantly looking at pictures in a week.

Got mine today lefty navy blue singe sight line. Love the putter hate the cover. Probably end up using my spider black cover. 25 6 footers in a row when I went to pick it up. Putter swings itself almost

How do you like the finish? I haven't seen any of them in the sun yet, curious if it keeps that deep navy look in all lighting conditions

I'm finding all these mallets incredibly stable, super high moi, although I compare everything to my bullseye (which I still use for practice hitting middle of face on the dot).

It's the sightlines I'm less sure about. Like them for aiming, not during stroke, easier to stay laser focused on spot on back of ball with less other stuff to look at. I find my eyes following the head path vs the stupid lines during the stroke.

Might dig up that university study.

Interesting article about DJ testing lines:

Only had it indoors weather been bad. Pictures don’t do it justice though it’s a sharp putter

Spent 10 minutes w it today. It's a fine putter but $350 is just offensive.

I tend to agree. $350 for an off the shelf putter is getting to be borderline ridiculous. I rolled all the variations at Golf Mart yesterday and pretty much settled on the Navy w/ the wide alignment aid. Kinda reminds me of an old Camaro with rally stripes down the middle, but it actually works pretty well in function.

Rolled fine, very stable, I like it, will probably eventually get it... then I went out and had a great putting day this morning with my current gamer and made me rethink the whole thing.

New equipment in general has gone off the rails. I was in Golf Galaxy and actually chuckled out loud when I walked past the new callaway sub zero drivers and their $599 price tag. I mean... sheesh.

Re the TM putters, $349 is a joke considering Odyssey’s new stuff sits at $249 and some pre-owned scotty’s are across the way for $229ish.

Didn’t Jim Furyk win $10MM w a second hand $10 putter? This whole thing is out of control.*

*yes, I still read every review and ogle the clubs when they’re released.

And don't forget Brandt Snedeker...

Before dropping hundreds at the local golf shop, consider the equipment that Brandt Snedeker used to win the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am on Sunday.

A 9-year-old putter.

A 5-year-old driver.

And a 4-year-old set of irons.

“I don’t like changing equipment,” Snedeker said Sunday. “I like to keep the variables to a minimum, so I know that it’s me that’s messing up and not the clubs. It works better that way.”

His Bridgestone J40 irons are well-worn, as is his Odyssey White Hot XG Rossie, which Snedeker first discovered in 2005 on the Web.com Tour. It’s been in play since the ’06 season. Sticking with his 2010 TaylorMade Burner SuperFast driver is the most interesting decision, however. That’s ancient by today’s standards, and he’s likely robbing himself of some much-needed distance. (He ranks 113th on Tour in driving distance, at 289.9 yards per pop.) But as Snedeker explains, “I’m never going to be able to overpower a golf course, so until I find a driver that goes straighter than the one I’m playing, I’m not going to change.”

Golf Digest crunched some numbers. The current trade-in value for Snedeker’s driver and putter: a whopping $34.

When informed of this after his win Sunday, Snedeker replied, “Wouldn’t shock me. If you see any more, I’m willing to buy them for that.”

I'm in the same boat as others, $449 plus 13% tax in Canada is a bit outrageous. It is a nice putter, but I fully customized my current gamer and if I'm going to buy a second putter to try, I'd rather not spend $500+ on it. Maybe if there is a 15% off event at golf town I will try one out, otherwise they have priced me out. Something about seeing 40 of them lined up next to one another in the store, all priced at $450 really made me feel like it was a rip off.

If I needed a putter I might do it, if it was $325 I would already own it most likely.

Same set up, single line navy bros. There is a lot going on in Spider putters to call them clean but man is that thing clean.

And to all of the talk about the price being to high. Youre damn right it is, but thats the industry standard now with everyone. Remember that Odysseys tech'd out Exo putters are $300, Camerons are $400, Toulons are $450, Ping Vault $300. Then you have $350-400 FAIRWAY WOODS now. Its getting out of hand across ALL brands, not just TM.

Seemore's are 395$, Scotty's are over 380$, Evnroll's are 360$ and Exo's are 320$.

Spider X's price is not that ridiculous when looking are the other prices, and considering the Spider X is the higher end putter of TaylorMade. I agree with you guys though it's getting a tad high to buy putters.

Well we basically said the same exact thing. I should just delete my post, didnt see yours haha.

Agreed and also how many times do you use your putter per round compared to a $500-600 driver per round.

Well I am comparing it to last years model which seems the same ish and is $50 less. Also, my issue is more that I usually buy putters to try out; trying an o works out cost me $260 last year, now I like the spider and I need to fork over $500 I probably just won't buy it (until I can get some kind of discount).

I do really like the putter though it feels better than the originals to me.
