Hopefully Wilson releases the new Prototype's Pronto. Might be a new favourite on the horizon.

Funny story. I was searching for FG 100s for a good month and then gave up on them due to zero luck. Debated waiting for these but needed my bag set in stone by March. Then I lucked my way into two brand new sets of 100s still wrapped in plastic. Now that I have what I was looking for I still want the newer cleaner ones! I blame wrx :)

 

Anyway I decided to try to clean them up a bit. I think they would have sold more if they looked more like this, which is more like the model they were replicating. Either way I love the direction they went with the new ones and think the 100s are great irons regardless of the busyness.

Glad to hear Wilson will be releasing these for the spring peak season. Hopefully they can capture some of the market place they used to own.

 

I can remember wanting the FG 100's but was waiting for them to come down to my price range. Things were looking good till someone sparked some interest on them with a sweet thread. Maybe that explains you having a hard time finding some. Looks like u found your treasure's, u don't fool around 2 new in the plastic sets impressive.

If you're going by MPF, for instance, looking at classic blades the Maxfli Australian Blades would probably rate as the easiest to hit. Also if you're into MPF of course Maltby's own current various blades all are a 701+ rating like the MMB-17 or TS1. Also a number of other component manufacturers like Hireko and Alpha carry some serviceable cast blade options that have a low CG like the XV Tour Blade (304 is very soft feeling) or MDC (looks sweet and has modern weight and CG location but is 431 so I imagine not incredibly pleasant feeling - I'm putting some demo clubs together to test a bunch of these side-by-side). They are not forgiving but I love my new Bang Golf Tour Tools Classic 1 blades (304 semi-forged redux of the 1978 Wilson Staff FG-17) if they suit your eye: they feel incredible and they are very tight to their specs when I received them.

Funny u mention the Australian Blades, another member was just telling me he was a fan of them, soft feeling as well he mentioned. I do love looking thru the Maltby ratings, I will have another look at your recommendations, thanks Stitch. Kinda funny u revived this thread as I just bought some Ping Blueprints, was able to find 6-pw for a very fair price, not sure I can hit em but they sure look pretty. Hopefully they become my easiest to hit Blades.

While I think the general sentiment that "a blade is blade" is more true than false, I think there is something to the more friendly experiences some people have had with different models. The Maltby charts were mentioned a few times as well as CG location and to me that seems to be the common denominator. Cleveland 588mb, Tommy Armour 845m, Maxfli Australian Blades (the newer version), most of the old Mizuno blades, old Taylormade RAC blades, Titleist 690 and 695mb, all of these blades have very low vertical CG's. I think it is also no coincidence that something like the Taylormade P730 was not mentioned once (that I caught) as it is very high CG design. So overall I think blades are still blades, but there definitely seems to be a correlation with people finding the lower CG models to be friendlier, which makes sense.

The 2019 Cobra MB/CB set with Tungsten in the sole and toe. Very compact, very little off set and quite forgiving of minor transgressions.

I hear you on the Maltby chart CG number's, I have tried many a club based on their lower GC ratings. (mostly CB's) I definitely find the lower the CG the more friendly they are for me. Think it's time for some low CG blade shopping..... I have some MB2's that hit pretty well for me, not sure what the CG is on those, those brass weights low on the head do more than look good.

Even outside of the blade category, a noticeable number of irons that have cult-like status are models with very low CG. I would imagine that the MB2's are in that category as well, too bad they aren't in the MPF charts.

Original Nike Blades for me. I went through Mizuno MP4, , MP5, MP 20 HMBs...went to the basement for something...saw my old nike blades, and remembered all my low scores were with this set lol. 66, 67...so i took them to the range and kaboom baby...my iron play is back!!

 

loved the z945, z965, z forged also. found the z945s a little clunky..and the feel too carbony. then went to the z965s which felt like real blades with great feedback but cumbersome..too big. z-forged was perfect ..almost..not as good feeling as the z965...if only the z965 was smaller = Original Nike Blades lol

Big Mean's thread is getting to be epic, lots of blade love over there. I was just looking for member's favourites vs a more meaningful discussion of how, why and when.

You got me, my love for trying out new to me iron sets, isn't beneficial to my score. More of an iron tester vs a player, but that's the fun part for me. The memory of a few sweet shots keeps me happy, during these long winters in my area. Not sure why the dog chases his tail, but it looks like he's having fun:)

Sorry to everyone for the slight derailment. It’s one of the reasons I almost even hate to post on the site anymore because there’s so many individuals like a previous poster in this thread who just feel the need to insult others.

I think the easiest to hit blades I’ve ever played were the 1999 Hogan Apex irons. I have played a lot of blades in my life but these were absolutely the best in forgiveness and trajectory for a blade iron. Thank you for all the wonderful info in this thread. Makes me want to go out and try to hit a few other sets of blades. However, I think I will stick to my i210’s due to LOFT disease. LOL.

Speaking of MPF and blades....not long ago was looking through the lists and saw the Taylor Made P730 blade...I literally laughed out loud! All of 15pts.!!!! The lowest by far of any iron I've seen.
