Please fill on the notes for the Ad operations team to narrow down. They do work 24 hrs.

The popups hit me every couple of days. I fill out the form with the URL of the ad, and close the window and return to get the URL of the page I was on when it hit. The ad typically will go away for a period of time, but will return the next day or the day after. It is especially infuriating when I’ve spent a bit of time typing something, then a popup locks me out of what I’ve written. I’ve asked before, and not been answered:

What is is about GolfWRX that makes it susceptible to these attacks? I don’t get the popups on other sites, which would suggest that there is a security issue that CAN be solved. Am I at risk for malware or identity theft when using the site? If the popup authors can hijack this page, what else can they do?

My wife has maintained that I get a lot of computer issues from here. In fact she banned me from the site on our home computer years ago. My work computer got a ransom virus years ago (converted everything into Chinese like characters and wanted a payment for the encryption key). We don’t know that it came from here, but it’s about the only site I visit on regular basis. I’ve switched to the iPad hoping to minimize any future damage. I’ve filled out the forms also.

That’s kinda scary. This site is expanding rapidly it seems — writers, reporters, videos, reviews — it seems backward that we users are subjected to this kind of intrusion. Other sites don’t have this problem, so it must be solvable. Would love to hear about this from mods. Other than filling out reports and having the same popup appear later, what is being done?

A pop up is an ad that we do not allow and it is not a virus or malware in its basic form. We are actually using the same ad networks as every major site. The pop ups are not allowed and are infiltrated through their suppliers.

Most people have spyware and antivirus protection for their computers hopefully. Searching the Internet will suggest products and services that will protect you. There is nothing out there that will protect you from 100% all the time. Proper protection is the best prevention.

Being as “untechy” as I am, it probably is something I’m going wrong. But it sure is frustrating, probably had it happen a dozen times today so far. I’ll see if I can get some help from someone who is more knowledgeable than me.
