Boston area club fitter

Good afternoon WRXers!

I have just recently moved to the Boston area and am looking for a good clubfitter. I've dialed it down to two locations and would like to know if anybody has any experience/info or recommendations for them. Here's a quick rundown of what I've found concerning them both:

Club Champion

Pros: Not limited to OEMs fitting cart combinations (can try pretty much any combination possible), Trackman

Cons: Indoor instead of outdoor fitting

Joe Leigh's

Pros: Outdoor fitting

Cons: Limited to OEMs fitting cart combinations, GC2 instead of Trackman (or have they updated to GC4?)

I also considered Ace of Clubs, but they don't appear to cary all the brands I would like to try.

Thanks guys!

p.s.: not sure if this is in the good forum... please move if it is not

Frank @ aceoflcubstp.com is a great guy, very demanding of himself as to specs, and will answer all questions. Callaway, TM, Tour Edge, PXG, Mizuno, others.

Don't know what you're looking for...

I just did a fitting at Club Champion and it was a great experience. One of the biggest knocks I hear from them is the price and that CC pushes you into expensive stuff, but that wasn't my experience at all. I was fit by Terry and he was only focused on what worked for my game, and was pretty honest about the fact that my current setup aside from driver/3W shafts was very well fit for me and only recommended some minor loft and lie tweaks instead of trying to sell me a set of irons. Results with the driver shaft fitting have been fantastic - much tighter dispersion and usually about a club shorter in on my second shots now.

As for the indoor/outdoor issue, there are downsides to indoor, but conditions outside can change in a hurry so I think there's some benefit to the controlled environment. Get fit, then go demo the iron heads somewhere outside so you can make sure you like the turf interaction...

I strongly considered it, but they don't have Ping or Titleist from what I saw...

I'll give them a call to see if that changed.

Thanks!

Thanks for the insight! That's what I was planning on doing if I was gonna get fit indoors. The indoor par pt has me more worried for wedges. So much of it is feel when it comes to wedges so not seeing the ball flight bugs me a little bit.

Thanks everyone for the input!

The problem with some of the national chains like Club Champion is that the clubs are built by you don't know who ... they are sent to Ohio? and then back to the location. I depend on the clubmaker to go to lengths to build the club precisely - the fitting and build is what your paying for... and who likes fitting clubs? I don't. I want the glued on iron hosel. The actual iron I may be playing. Just sayin...

Frank at aceofclubs does not carry Titleist or Ping, and he can be expensive - but he does the builds and he does not use fitting clubs - he use glued clubs. And if there's something you're serious about, if he doesn't have it glued up, he will build one glued iron for you while you're there.

I go by the buy it right, buy it once phillosophy when it comes to irons and wedges, and will spend more - because I only want an iron set about once every 5-6 yrs. Drivers and fairways - you know, the fickle clubs with new tech, you buy them more often, even though I like to remain set on fairways once I find something I like.

  • 1 year later...

Thanks everyone for the input!

I am curious where you ended up getting fitted? I am actually in the same boat trying to decide between Joe and Leigh's, Club Champion, True Spec, etc. Joe and Leigh's seems to be the best value, but curious to see where you ended you ended up going as I was scanning the subject on the forums. Thanks!
