I have a Ping Rapture like that in my set back in the UK. Got an Aldila Proto shaft in it (65?). As you say, nice feeling driver. I like the lead tape on it, and I might try that next time I go back and hit it.

Back on the Aldila train. I would hit one crazy block every 12 holes or so for some reason with Obans ... and a block NEVER happens for me

 

If you like a stiff driver that kicks like a mule. Try the NL in my sig ... amazing shaft in the 10* LST head ( for my swing speed anyways ... ymmv )

 

Took some new lines on doglegs at the "home course" down here over the last few days, good times

Ahhh, I see. I don't tend to do well with shafts that kick a lot. I like to feel like I'm swinging a 2x4

Driver shaft shootout at PING Canada today while I waited for some clubs to be flattened

 

Driver speed: 102-3 ish Carry: mid 250's Launch: 12* Run out mid 280's

 

The winner was the Oban Revenge 65x (electronically anyways)

 

Runner Ups: Oban Purple 55x, Blueboard 53x, Aldila NL 60x

 

I need to work back to 108-109 where I was 18 months ago (carrying it low 270's). Instructor and I targeting 111 once this elbow comes fully around.

 

I can still swing my 3w at 100 ... so some driver mechanics work to do. 8 iron carry has dropped from 168 to 160. Age and injuries !!! CURSES !

I'm also going to toss some 95g shafts in my Rapture J-spec five and six irons and see how those perform

 

I think the J-spec 3 and 4 irons are permanently benched. The Apex 4h and 20* heavenwood are just too easy to hit

I had Ping bend the J spec five and six irons to orange dots ... will be a good blend into the s55 short irons (Fujikura mci100s) and

create a graphite shaft shootout vs the US spec Raptures

No the J spec is on the left. The J spec's have stronger lofts and less offset. They are great long irons to partner with modern USA Ping short irons. Hot Ti face and big tungsten plug in toe + plus the old Ping finish that never wears out

Callaway gave me a free new v2 head

it was swingweighting e0 ... with the same Apache shaft ... so I’ve ordered some lighter weights

the gen 1 Apex 5h was at d8 ... which was ideal

P790 v2 with Aldila Proto 85x

Ping Blueprints, orange dot, Recoil 110s. I really want this combo to work as I lit it up with iron play last summer with my blueprints, and had a record level of subpar rounds in 2019, but the DG xp115 x100's wore this old man's elbows out

I’ve ‘ho’d dozens of sets over the years and my set of i3+ Blades (3-P) is the only set I can’t bring myself to sell.  I cut the shafts a touch short for my son a while back so when I put them back in the rotation they’ll either need to be extended or re-shafted.

 

For sh!ts and giggles, I called Ping a few years back about getting a 2i and UW to expand the set (2i for nostalgia only...).  At that time they were selling individual irons for replacement and expansion and they had both heads - but, they could no longer get original Rifle 5.5 shafts so I passed.  May call again to do it and just have them throw in an inexpensive 110 gram shaft to get the swing weight right and match all the shafts later.

 

Anyway, great find - enjoy!

Cally standard lofts, which I'm guessing are on the weak side for those?

Through your club back home or down south?

Thru my club at home but shipping to my rental house down here

 

of course my pro called me again this morning to say 2 weeks delivery if I go 95s hardstepped or 105tx soft stepped .. 12 weeks if I want to wait for 105s because they have none in stock

 

Just OK’d the 95’s.  I’ve been doing well with recoil 95 and 95 protos last few years so it should be fine

 

The gap wedge is also 3 months out so that will ship to home club in Toronto

 

If I don’t love the MMT 95 in these heads I will just dump them in my CF16 set
