PING 400 irons vs G410

I caved today. I had $700 in shop credit in VA and my VA bag is sans irons. I've been debating on which PINGs to order and was seriously considering jumping to the G410. Currently playing G400 and LOVING them since last April. After today's round I realized just how much I trust these stix, so I ordered an identical set. They have just the right amount of offset for me and the sole and topline look perfect to me. Viva la G400!

You only disagree a "bit". Come on, a bit is not the American way, you are supposed to incensed, where is your fighting spirit? You can do better, give it another try. :superman2:

I made the switch and couldn’t be happier. I prefer the less offset and the sound/feel of the 410’s but i do prefer the badging part of the g400. Both are great irons and fit me great!

I have G400's. I've been taking lessons for the past 5 weeks from a Top 25 instructor and have improved my swing and scores significantly. However, I still don't have the distance that either of us think that I should have. He suggested that I might benefit from softer shafts and recommended that I get a fitting at a local shop. Yesterday, I had my iron fitting. With my current setup (G400 Green Dot, modus 3 regular shaft), I have a lot of backspin (well over 8000 rpm) to go with my short length. After trying a few different shafts with the G400 head, it was clear that switching to a slightly longer graphite shaft is going to help me. But, while I gained distance, my backspin was still too high. We then tried some different heads. The G700 added a bit more distance and reduced the spin a bit. Then the G410 increased the distance and reduced the spin even more.

I bought the clubs 2 years ago right after I got back into playing golf. My swing wasn't particularly good. I had last played golf at 380 pounds. I subsequently got up to 460. After getting back down to 195, I decided that I wanted to start golfing again. The problem was that I was still swinging a golf club using all of the "tricks" that I used to use to compensate for my size. Essentially, my swing was a mess. At the same time, I also had a set of clubs that was completely wrong for me. So, I went to a Ping dealer, got a fitting and walked away with something better. But, as I've improved my swing, the clubs are no longer perfect for me.

In July, I decided that I was going to make the commitment to get better. I signed up for a set of 10 lessons, which was the best thing that I could possibly do. Two weeks ago, after my instructor said that I might benefit from different shafts, I started thinking about getting another fitting, this time at a highly respected, brand neutral fitter. But, I decided to wait until my next lesson to ask the instructors opinion on whether I should get a new fitting and whether I should do it now or wait until I get further along with my lessons. He then recommended the shop that I had already planned on going to and recommended two specific fitters at that shop (one who's on vacation and the other who I hadn't considered).

I had a one hour iron fitting last night and I have two hours scheduled tomorrow to work through the rest of my bag. My attitude is that, if I'm going to make a commitment to playing better by spending time and money on lessons and practice, it's the right time to ensure that I have equipment that fits my body and game the best (even if my current clubs are only 2 years old).
