I was talking to a guy at work the other day, hadn't seen him for a while as we have a pretty large facility. I asked him about the upcoming golf season. He told me he is going down to South Carolina with some friends next week for a golf vacation. So I said "Got those Pings polished and packed up eh?" He sheepishly said "Actually I started looking around last year, and saw some TaylorMade P790's that I liked, and went with them". He said "I got to thinking, there just might be something better out there for me". I was shocked, he had been a Ping man for probably 15 years. I remember when he got them, he was in our league and he said he would never play anything else. Poor clubs, now they're probably on their own...

Actually I'm not, but sometimes I go for the chunky, easier to hit MPH5, versus the sleek and slim MP15.

It's satisfying to hit the MP15 though because it takes more effort and the chase is half the fun.

I’ve cheated on my golf clubs my entire golfing life. I am going to try hard to stay on the straight and narrow now. I have a set I like, and going to try and be true to them for a while. Maybe work on my swing instead!

I am very true to my clubs and do not bang other people’s drivers or wedgies. Sure, I may go to a swap meet at the end of the year and feel the slightly older and used assets, but I don’t hit anything that isn’t mine.

I was a full bag Titleist man since I started playing, but I’ve tinkered with other clubs a lot lately (tried Mizuno, Callaway, and PXG irons, TM driver). Currently playing a full Titleist bag again though ironically.

I was out trying irons last Friday. I must of looked quilty when I got home so they asked where I was. I said I was with a hooker. I think they believed me.

I use clubs awhile before I move on.

 

In my adult golf career, I have used iron sets for 20, 14, 2, 9, and new swapout. Drivers seem to last about 5 years. More movement in woods and hybrids and putters.

 

For 20+ years I was a MacGregor guy. Then, I played basically a components set of Ping Eye2 stuff for 14 years, and then switched mainly to Callaway, with Cleveland wedges and Tour Edge FWs mixed in.

 

That said, although I don't buy new clubs all that often, I really love the golf expos and demo days. I try the different brands. Callaway and Tour Edge I try in detail each year, and work in the others on an informal odd-even year schedule.

 

I really admire the engineering of post-2000 clubs. There's so much solid gear out there. Operator error always hurts my scores more than equipment problems.

 

As for irons, just about every major manufacturer makes at least one model I could play - as long as it had the right shaft.

My Mizuno JPX 850's caught me cheating a couple of days ago, but it was with the new 919's, so I think I'm OK.
