Best Hybrid of recent years

Im considering swapping out my 3 iron for a hybrid of some sort. I carried a 21 or 22 degree TaylorMade Rescue Dual years ago with the TM stock stiff shaft and used to love how the ball pinged off the face of it - club went about 210 yards and was as easy to hit as a 6 iron.. I purchased the same 16 degree TM Rescue Dual but the feel was never the same as the 22..

I would be interested to hear if there is a general consensus on here re the best hybrid of the last 5 years - ie the equivalent club to the TM Dual that i loved (which i think was largely regarded as a weapon back then) but with 15 years added technology advancement, ie more distance, feel, ease of use etc..

I picked up an MPH5 4 iron but didn’t find it any different in distance, ease of use and had less feel compared to any standard forged 4 iron..

If you like something that is it a bit more iron looking, you cannot go wrong with the Titleist 818 H2. If you are looking for something with a slightly bigger profile, I am hearing great things about the new Ping G410 hybrids.

Callaway Apex. Basically an Adams Idea Pro with face cup. The new Apex adds jailbreak. Both are fantastic.

Another hybrid that flies under the radar is the Mizuno JPX 900. Can be set to flat and it doesn’t go left. Solid ball speed and spin characteristics. Ive moved on from mine and I miss it dearly. Although my new apex hybrids are quite good as well.

Smaller head wise so a hybrid that has more similarities with an iron that a fairway wood, I have to mention the 915Hd. Just superb! I picked one up second hand a couple of years ago as a back up to my 712U 3 iron. I started hitting that poorly during the course of last season the 915Hd went into the bag and I do not understand how I did not appreciate it more from the moment that I got it. Long, straight and so easy to control. If you can find one give it a go.

Cheers for the responses guys - looks like the Apexes are holding their value real nice where I’ve looked.. may see if i can hit one next time i at the range.. I had a 503 and 585 titleist back in the day so may keep my eye out for the 915hd if i can find a decent example

X2Hot Pro is possibly the best hybrid ever. Adams made some great hybrids, but are getting harder and harder to find.

Been hitting the Adams Pro A12's for years, great hybrid. Have always been intrigued by the baffler rails on the Cobra's though. After reading all the reviews ordered the 2 / 3 Cobra F8's.

Not sure about 5 years but I am of the opinion that still to this day nobody has made better hybrids than Adam's golf. The idea pro and super ls if you want very low spin, being the best of them all. Save some cash, and find one of those to put a new shaft in and you've got the perfect hybrid.

Like a few others have said, Apex and idea pro all the way. I have a 14, 20 and 23 in the idea pro, and 18, 20 and 23 in the apex. Perfect hybrids IMO

Original Adams Idea Pro, Nike VR Pro and Adams XTD Super Hybrid are my favorite hybrids. Still have all 3 and the Nike VR Pro is probably my favorite and currently in the bag. Compact, muted and great feel. Recent hybrid? I have the Ping G400 with KBS Proto. Forgiving, high hitting and decent feel.

I've always fared best with the ping hybrids, if you are very high spin you might need to mess with some shafts. They definitely feel the best to me.

Callaway Apex original version is worth a look. Makes attacking greens from long range much less threatening. Not super long, which is great, so you get reliable distance. It wont be as workable as a long iron, but they are playable from a lot of lies.

 

3iron model is solid at 20 degree and 40" length.

I know i'm in the minority here but the Bridgestone J40 18 and 21degree with the project x shafts are the best oif all hybrids i have ever had, including adams, ping, and titleist

Titleist 818 H2. Compact head for a more iron look, but forgiveness of a hybrid.

Another vote for callaway apex from me. I have both the 2 hybrid and the 4 hybrid. Great feel, looks, and doesn't hook!

I’ve mostly played Cobra hybrids, but found a unicorn in the Ping G 4Hy 22°. A friend built it with the NV 2KXV 85H green, and it’s crazy good. Typical carry is 200y, but I can step on it out to 215 or drop back to 170. (Driver = 235-240 carry) For me, it’s a power hybrid with versatility and forgiveness, and it’s all in the shaft. The G410 22° tops out at 195y for me in the stock CB Alta. Don’t overlook the importance of the right head + shaft combo just ‘cause it’s a hybrid.

i did the same as a lad with my ma’s Callaway Warbird 3 wood.. just had issues with the club grip being as thin as a pencil..

Anything from Titleist is good. I picked up a 913hd with a Diamana D+ for 40$ this summer and it’s fantastic

I've played a bunch of different brands over the years and keep going back to my Cobra Bio Cells. Longest, most forgiving hybrid I've ever hit. You can still get the heads new on ebay for $20. So glad so many people are opposed to Cobra because they sometimes make colorful clubs or whatever reason they have for hating them, keeps the price down and gives me one more quality equipment option than the haters. Next best for me would be anything Titleist over the last few years. I especially liked the 915 (the smaller one, can never remember which is which)
