3 woods 2019

I try to do a fitting of some sort every February when the end toys come out primarily to see if I’m maxed out or if there’s something better.

This year, the F9 Tour unseated the mighty Cobra LTD. Very similar numbers, and better than the others for me. I bought it because it’s smaller and they are into something with the rails. Turf interaction was the only critique on the LTD.

Lots of good ones this year - the Ping, the PXG, the Tmag, the Flash. Lots of good ones.

I did a fairway food this morning. I’m not loyal to any brand so I went in with an open mind. Tried Flash, F9, M5/M6, Ping 410 and I was pretty much set on the Ping 410 with the Tensei Orange. Then I said to the fitter, “Let’s try the Titleist just so I can have a clear conscious”. Well, one swing and mic drop. The TS2 with HZRDUS simple was longer, better dispersion, and felt the best to me.

Honestly, hit them all and the make the call.

You’ll have more confidence over the ball.

Yep. That rhymes......

I'm most curious about the Mizuno 190 fairway. It is the best looking fairway wood out there.
Yeah looks good for sure but I'd never be able to see or test it without buying it since no one carries that around me.
I've been able to see it, but they didn't have any demos. It looks even better in person and sets up really nice. But for most, they would have to buy it blind.

The ST190 is replacing my Epic SZ (weight forward) this year. I'm not sure what constitutes high spin/launch since actual and desired numbers weren't provided, but I look for 11-12* with 2900-3000 spin at 155-158 ballspeed. I can manipulate those conditions off a tee. As a lefty, I don't get to choose between the TS and regular version, but both heads behave similarly with adjustability being the point of difference. That's my only discouragement since I think having a fairway that can go from 13-17* is very functional if you play different courses and conditions. If you like the simplicity of the traditional glued head (which I think was a tour request), then you've got that option.

It's the best sounding and looking head available with some improvement over the previous ST180. The Wave Sole works really well on the low strikes, had it on the JPX-850 and never left me wanting off the deck. I can't see me hot melting this head as it's very neutral and solid. It'll go great alongside the driver in my bag

Those sound like good numbers for a fairway wood. I would like to get around 2800-3200 spin, and it would appear that the Mizuno fairway woods should be similar to their drivers and be lower spinning than many of the others. I don't think your missing much by not having the ability to get the TS, unless you really change settings quite a bit. If anything it made your choice easier. I'm torn between the two, but I rarely ever adjust fairway woods when I've had some that are adjustable. I find right around 15 degrees gives me plenty of distance and still easy enough to hit off the deck. The other issue is, if I put my current fairway wood shaft in there, I would have to cut it down, and if I ever switch to something without an adapter the 3-wood would then play quite a bit shorter.

I think the period after "mic drop" and then the start of the new sentence would presume that he wasn't stating that the one swing had better dispersion compared to multiple shots with the TS2

Put a 917f2 in the bag last season, and it's simply the best 3 wood I've ever had. I've had some vintage 3 woods as well. Not as long as my Adams super LS or XTD-Ti, but better in every other category.

Just bought a Wilson C300 13.5 for my back up bag. Couldn't resist the blowout price. No idea how it performs, will have to report back in the Spring here in the Northeast.

^^^ this. I certainly picked the mic back up, or is this case the TS2, and hit many more balls. Went back and forth with the G410 and TS2 for about 20 minutes just to confirm that it wasn’t a one hit wonder.
