Matte?? In white? I don’t understand

Um...no not white. Whatever I said that makes you think I wrote white in matte, I apologize.

I did read a little something about the Wilson Pro. When I worked at GS for something to do, I remember the Wilson Urethane came out and hitting it in one of the bays. Felt hard to me but maybe I wasn't flushing it or this ball is softer. I've used the Pro V1x and like the spin and ball flight. It just feels like a rock and off center hits are painful with dreadful result. At least with a softer ball off center hits are just fine distance and feel. wise Go ahead and say that's BS because off center hits with a high compression balls yields the exact same distance but for me that's just not true.

Wilson Duo Pro is very soft so should be perfect. Great ball.

Thanks coach. I was just watching some videos and reading some about the TM Project a. Never have liked anything TM but I'm open minded. Doesn't come in matte but apparently very low compression and spins like crazy compared to the QS Tour and Wilson Pro. I do have time to compare a couple when I get back down there.

Probably TXG ball videos or The Average Golfer. Project a should fit the bill.

Volvik has a Matte finish golf ball. Idk if they are any better than the Q star but may be worth a shot?

Volvik has one called a Matte Soft. It is nice and soft and seems ok on full shots. But just seems dead off the putter. The ball doesn’t come the face with any pop, everything was way short of the hole. I’ll have to give it another try now that it’s a bit warmer. And maybe try a non insert putter.

The reason I asked is the video I saw from TXG did not include Wilson Duo Pro. It was Project a, Q-Star Tour and Tour Soft. I like the Wilson Duo Pro more than the Project a.

The Wilson Duo Pro was not included in the video you reference and don't want anyone reading this to be misinformed.

Here is a post from someone on this site comparing Wilson Duo Pro vs some TM premium balls (TP5x, Tour Preferred X, etc)

I had a two hour TM4 session tonight and took some time at the end to get some quick comparison numbers in with a few clubs. Overall, the Duo Pro feels great. I played the original Duo for a couple seasons and this ball does not feel mushy *at all* like the Duo did. Softer for sure but not at all like the Duo. Really felt great.

The matte yellow is a great color but the one thing I noticed is that it seems to really pick up marks more than I would have expected. Cleaned up fine though. And to be fair, under normal playing conditions, it would have been getting cleaned once per hole vs just getting wailed on for 50 shots or so.

For comparison sake, the balls in my shag bag are TM balls from the past few years, TP5x, Tour Preferred X and Lethals all in very good condition. No, they are all not the same, so I guess take the TM #s for what they are but they are all high end TM balls in great condition.

Clubs used: 60* hi toe/partial wedge shot. Cobra one length 9 iron, Steelfiber 110 stiffs. M3 driver, 9.5* ADDI black 6x.

Took ~10 shots with each club per ball. Rotated 5-5 then 5-5 again so I wasnt taking 10 in a row with one ball. Deleted any obvious skulls.

post-18357-0-51177900-1544656380_thumb.png

Gotta say, the numbers are much much closer than I would have thought. I used the metal dots on both balls and the spin numbers were comparable. I initially *thought* that the Duo felt a little dead on the driver but the numbers seemed to stay consistent.

Definitely will be testing this ball more throughout the winter.

From my experience all of the matte balls pick up dirt a little more than those that aren’t matte.

My experience agrees with yours. When the course is soft it can be a problem with mud balls.

Can't try up here these days and when we get to our place in Florida I just want to play.

Currently play Q StarTour which I like except the Florida greens I play are rock hard and I can't get the Q Star Tour to stop. Looking for soft, huge spin, matte and high launch.

Thanks in advance!

Agreed Duo Pro. But, as someone who requested a matte ball why do you like matte balls? To me they get dirty easily, have less feel than a traditional ball. Yet companies continue to go that way. Just curious.

May I ask, why matte? I still haven't heard why this is a thing. They get collect dirt and do not have the same feel as a shiny QST.

Okay...finished our week at the PGA Village. Our courses were firmer than I could have imagined. Played the Q Star Tour and it felt like zero spin on approach shot unless I had a wedge shot...OMG. The ball would roll all over the green and usually down to a collection area. I thought the greens were so firm I wouldn’t be able to stop any ball but I pulled out some Chrome Soft X’s I got for Christmas and surprisingly could get them to stop and spin back a little...wow. I’m sure there are others but wanted to give some feedback.

Going back to Philly area and will once again fire at pins all day long. Firm\fast greens really added a whole new dimension and thought process to where you need to land the ball and brutal consequences if you don’t.
