Dogs on the course?

Our club is dog friendly a lot of the members take their dog to the range or back deck with them. The only requirement is good behavior on both owner and dogs part. My wife runs our 2 dogs every day with her cart while her overweight weiner rides beside her on seat. The other two both small dogs are well behaved and generally stay with the cart she gives them a few minutes when they stop and sniff and claim territory lol and she has even gotten them trained to poop in the woods lol. Our dogs are small and we pick up after them. Anyone have any thoughts as far as dogs on course?

I think well-behaved dogs should be allowed, they are far better than ill-behaved children (& adults). My course(s) do not allow dogs. but I've found that people who'd like to have their dogs with them on a course, more often than not, have super well-behaved dogs. I have taken my dog on the course with me (in the cart) & no one's ever known. It's late in the day, no one else around, & my dog doesn't even whine when Ieave him in the cart while I putt, & he doesn't pay a bit of attention to the deer & any other wildlife on the course.

My course is ok with it. We have had members in the past who would have their dogs ride around for the round, maybe let them off the cart once every few holes so they can run or chase a squirrel. We have a guy now that comes out in the evening and lets his jack russell fly around the course chasing squirrels and running after his cart. I have zero issue with it.

My dogs on the other hand, cannot come to the course. My little dog would run away chasing squirrels and my big one would wind up in the lake swimming after the geese or trying to play with the alligator.

As a dog person don’t mind it proving they are behaved.

Personally not sure I could stay focus on the shot and the dog. I already have enough swing demons to add keeping track of the dog.

I've noticed dogs on the course on some of Crossfield's UK course vlogs. Seems more ingrained in the golf culture over there.

I used to have a chocolate lab that was extremely well behaved on the course. He understood that if the cart was moving, he could roam around. However, anytime the cart stopped, he knew to sit in the cart until it moved again.

Saw dogs everywhere on our visits to Scotland the past two summers - including on golf courses, but only once with a golfer. I take mine out on the course in the off season - better than any dog park for running around and it's good exercise for yours truly as well.

The culture over there is different and folks not playing golf are often in and around courses most of the time, not like they are usually walking in the fairway, but usually on paths nearby along the sea or walking through the rough, or crossing the course. Here, I'm probably in the "no" camp in general for golfers taking their dogs out on the course during a round and assume most courses err on the side of caution in that regard. You would think dog people are the most conscientious, but hey, every time I see some dog doo in a fairway, or on a street or in my front yard - it was left there by a "dog person" - and a lot of folks just don't have enough self-awareness about having their dog under control in a lot of different situations.

If your dog is well behaved, under control and isn't affecting play (same standard for golfers, lol) - I look forward to meeting it on a golf course or anywhere else.

What's a dog thread without pics? A few from last summer across the pond.

I drop past a private club out near Riverhead on Long Island and saw a guy chip on to a green, with his dog sitting next to him. The guy picked up his towel and him and the dog both got in the cart and drove off, it seems like such a great experience if your dog has the temperament for it. I know my two dogs couldn’t be trusted in that situation so I would never bring them to a course without thorough training ahead of time.

I would love to see dogs on the courses I play. Both because I love dogs and because they would help keep geese away. Rampant goose bombs (which I have to deal with all the time) are far worse the occasional dog that's not picked up after. That said, nearly every dog I ever see off leash around me is well behaved with a responsible owner.

We had a official course dog for several years where I play. He liked to ride in the golf carts and if he knew you, and ran into you on the course, he would hop into your cart and ride until something else grabbed his attention. I never minded unless he'd just took a swim in of one of the ponds. He smelled worse than a old sow when he was wet.

Personally, I could do with more dogs and fewer people.
