Incense and Peppermints by Strawberry Alarmclock

Velvet Underground and Nico

Anything by Led Zeppelin

I saw Strawberry Alarm Clock in the late 60's. I believe they opened for the James Gang. Here's some trivia for you, their guitarist, Ed King went on to play guitar for Lynyrd Skynyrd (created & played the opening guitar riff in "Sweet Home Alabama" for e.g.) Here's some pics of him in both bands...

SAC (in center) and LS

The original Sweet H. A with Ed King 1974

1977 Concert w/o him, pretty lively, changed to Steve Gaines guitarist plus they added the Honkettes

This all is presenting me with a quandary, so I ask those more in the know.

The Clash, U2, The Police, The Jam, Talking Heads. All great bands, all formed in the late seventies 70's but productive into the 80's?

Where do you put them?

I'd say the 80's thread if they're released in the 80's... but I only say that because I frequent that thread too therefore I know I won't miss your post(s).

The first bass line I learned to play. I then realized I couldn't keep a beat if my life depended on it. I never got to see these guys, I was too young, but I sure liked them.

Never got to see these guys either, but another one of those songs that just never quite made commercial success but I can assure you I listened to this a lot as a kid.

I wonder if I was the classic frustrated teen... in every sense of the word

Very nice words Touch, unfortunately I am little shy in this particular thread and the 80s thread. Though, I do have funny thoughts every time I re-listen to a song thinking about who I was when the song made me happiest.

This one is for Touch.

Being raised by wolves wasn't easy for this young golfer (though I hadn't actually considered golfing at this point in my life). I was in middle school when I went to this show. Yep, I had to leave before the third set, and I was one of those kids which for some reason really enjoyed the Grateful Dead. At this point in my life, I was unfamiliar with Ken Kesey, or actually acid in any form. But I can still say, without a doubt, the best Dead show I ever saw. Here I am digressing.

Because I was 12/13 years old, my mother drops me off with some money in my pocket to buy the obligatory T Shirt and some food and a drink. Well, I couldn't leave while they were playing, it was that good. The older guy next to me got me high early in the show because he must of realized I probably didn't have a lot of weed on me at the time (my friend, only child, abstained) and unlike subsequent times did I realize the draw of MJ and Doritos. At the first intermission I went to get something to eat. The Stanley Theatre is an old building, a beautiful building, carpeted and everything.

Walking out to the Dorito stand there was a scantily clad woman on the top, with a long flowing skirt on the bottom and flowers in her hair (yes, she took it literally). There was no music, but I will be danged if she wasn't twirling and dancing to the sounds in her head. Now to a middle schooler this is absolutely something you want/ need to stare at, but politeness just made me stop for a second to watch. What I saw next was too much for this young stoned child. There was, presumably her boyfriend, throwing glitter on her as she twirled and danced to the music in her head. So here is a little music from the very show I went to.

It was at this point I knew there was more to the Grateful Dead than just great music. To this day, if I go on a road trip, the first album/CD is a Dead bootleg from one of their many shows.

Honestly, this is the concert that really started my love of music and seeing music live.
