Pickup trucks and golf bags

Pretty simple question, i'm not in the market for another car quite yet ....But considering i move a lot of things, and our roads in Quebec are absolute dog crap, I've been considering getting a medium pickup (like a GMC Canyon or Tacoma).

 

What do you guys do that have them, just chuck the bags in the bed? Do they roll around a lot back there? Or are there some hacks to secure them to something?

 

Dodge Ram 1500 Big Horn and I put them in the back cab. I only put them in the back during travel.

Why not put the clubs in the back seat?

If you need a truck, or just want a truck, get a truck. If you need a vehicle that's going to handle bad roads, that's not necessarily a truck. If you're just hauling clubs around, a Subaru is going to do as well as a F150 on bad roads If you're hauling clubs over dirt roads, maybe the truck makes better sense.

 

I don't have a truck, but when I golf with friends who have one, the clubs go in the back and they don't move around during normal driving. Some folks with a supercab just dump the clubs in the backseat like anyone with a sedan. Others have a cover on the bed and leave the clubs in there 24/7. Up to you.

 

Oh you don't need to sell me on Subarus haha....i've test driven basically every model and always consider them. I would venture a guess that they are better overall winter cars than trucks given the AWD platform and similar (8+ inch) ground clearance

 

That being said my reasons for wanting a truck are essentially: (in order)

 

1) They are cool

2) I do actually do a fair amount of moving heavy stuff around (reno materials and office furniture type things)

3) Our roads are garbage and sedans with low profile tires are a disaster here. You might as well have 2 spares in your car

4) We drive into the mountains a couple of times a winter and it's nice to have in case of a storm

5) Our winters are brutal on our roads, just this past week we got like 50cm in a day so you sometimes have to plow through snowbanks

 

Granted, 3-5 a Subaru would be just as good

Why not put the clubs in the back seat?

 

Did that for a while, but when it rains and the bag gets wet, it can water-damage the back seats if you don't clean it right away, or if it's a bit muddy too it can do a number on the seats. Would rather a trunk or bed.

I've considered buying an Outback and getting some of their work done. But it's just not necessarily the best thing. I don't want offroad tires like Wranglers or K-02's. Most of the reviews are that because of the compound they are not that great in the cold.

 

Their lifted Outbacks with the basket and bumper cage are pretty bad***.....but still, i'm still leaning towards a small pickup. A Canyon Denali for example would give me the hauling bed, some light off-road capability for when i'm in the mountains, and the ability to put legit winter tires on it fairly easily

Zr2 doesnt fit in my garage. I mean technically it does but it's way too close. I only have like an inch to work with. I'm not really comfortable considering I only have indoor spots (live in a townhouse with underground parking)

 

I'll probably get a Tacoma, as it is a few inches less in height than the ZR2

 

Only challenge is my current car is a GM and this part of a buyback program. So not sure what Toyota would give me

Full pickup definitely wont fit in my garage. I mean I haven't checked all of them but I only have a bit over 6 feet to work with in some areas of our underground parking

Agree. I have a full hard cover on an f150 and a bed rug. The full one. So my bed is like a huge trunk. No slide. No scratch no noise.

 

Now i say that as I have 2 other trucks and a couple trailers for hauling. So that truck is my “ Sunday go to meeting “ truck as the old folks pals say down here.

This sounds great, I've got an F150 and had a extang 2.0 cover, great cover but leaked terribly when it rained.

Getting a full refund and was going to get a bakflip.

Well if anyone cares i didn't get a truck LOL. Though i did consolidate a few poster's advice:

1) I did end up with a Toyota because they are awesome , simple and maintain value well.

2) I also took the advice of getting a "ruggedized" (somewhat) SUV that would give me some enhanced capabilities / snow modes but be a better daily driver than the truck

So yea, i got the new Rav4 TRD Offroad. Comes with Falken Tires, torque vectoring AWD and a few different snow/mud/gravel lowrange modes

Maybe i'll throw a basket on top of it to look cooler, haha

First off, buy whatever brand you like. Other people's opinions will lead you all over the place.

Second, Your clubs don't belong in the bed of the truck. Buy a crew cab (4 door) or extended cab and put them behind the seat.
