Last time beating a dead horse - Kuch & Mayakoba

Recommended Posts

Many have gone back and forth without detailed information & conjecture and I admit I have done google searches & read stories to ensure I know the facts as best I could.

Found this quote when Sergio won the Wyndham with a replacement caddie. Sergio's quote as to what he paid him (won $960,000 and interestingly was his first win in 4 years too).

"He'll probably get $75 (thousand) and a tip. He's going to be happy with what he gets. Obviously he is not going to get what a normal caddie would get, because his job was fairly easy. But he'll be happy with whatever he gets"

David Faircloth I already posted did nothing more then according to his words "Carry the clubs, clean them & pull the flag"

In a significant number of posts on the matter, many asked as to what exactly El Tucan did in order to assist Kuchar as a way to rationalize the pay he received (and minimizing any assistance he may have provided). Here is a post that answers that question.

Someone who was there said Kuchar gave credit to his caddie at the awards speech for helping him read the greens. Kuch made more birdies than anyone in the field. If this is true then definitely he wasn't just carrying the bag and actually provided invaluable local knowledge.

This debate for many of those who felt Kuchar stiffed the caddie came down to the following:

  1. The accepted pay to caddies based on what is the norm (and no one said pay him 10%) for all caddies carrying a tour players bag
  2. The unwritten code that any caddie involved in money games (playing with one's own chequebook) shares in the profit
  3. Precedents that existed and how replacement caddies were remunerated.

So again I ask those who defended Kuch so vehemently is there anything at all that could change your mind or give you pause to think?

And again for anyone who will blindly jump in. Kuchar's version of the agreed pay was

$1,000 ($500/rd missed cut)

$2,000 if played all four rounds

+$1,000 top 20

+$1,000 top 10

The extra $1,000 was his generous tip.... And now we see for helping him read the greens?????

Great post, Kuchar paid per the agreement made.

If there still weren't multiple posts from those defending Kuchar that continually misrepresented the facts such as how the $5,000 was arrived at, claiming (at least intimating) that there are no precedents & that El Tucan did very little to assist Kuch, I wouldn't bother.

The issue is like those who have already posted that few took the time to at least do some rudimentary research of the topic to know the facts.

Gillis posted first stating $3,000 and Kuch responded "Not $3,000, not $130,000", When we were all pretty much satisfied that the $5,000 was the amount, few knew how it was structured.

Of course I won't sway the "Deal is a deal" mob.

And yes I did not want to add to a thread in Heated Topics that may be posted in a day or two.......

This topic has become the major news networks. There's nothing new or original anymore just people accusing "the other side" of doing things that they are also doing.

It was wrong to call us SJW, so we're gonna call you KJW!!!! Because name calling was wrong!

The first threads were "pro" tucan and put in the cooler, now these ones aren't and are not! Mods are biased!!!!

I know there's no way to change the OTHER sides mind because they are pig headed and unwilling to listen to reason!!! (Says people arguing their side for 250 pages and 5 cooled threads)

One thing that might help this go the background is if WRX removed it as the #1 trending story on their homepage - still carrying the headline about Kuchar defending the $5K payment (with the update in parentheses at the end).
