Junior Stats to Track

Hey Guys,

 

My junior golfer is playing a lot more tournaments without caddies and I have a lot of time on my hands. I figured to keep stats during the round and later compare it to see what areas need to be improved. I searched the forums, but most of the stat talk are from 8+ years ago.

 

1) Was curious what you thought was important to track besides: Fairways, GIR, Putts, Saves, Score

 

2) I'm not too knowledgable on Strokes Gained. Can you track strokes gained if you're just tracking one player or you can only compare it if you have the entire field's data?

I've always found distance control to be an important stat, keep track of the yardage and +/- the resulting shot, often times people play for the perfect strike... Also Left or Right of FW or Green is helpful to find common misses. Keep notes on course management, how often does the junior shortside himself, go at unnecessary pins, hit driver when he shouldn't, etc... I think I made some real boneheaded mistakes around the course throughout highschool and even college, playing too aggressively mostly, the quicker those things are learned the better.

 

Just knowing if the player hit the green or how many putts doesn't really provide enough info. You said you have a lot of time so I would keep as much detail as you can and then log it later on.

decade is great for older kids but higher cost than most and must be playing 18 to fully take advantage of its system.

Does anyone use Game Golf to track stats? They released a Game Golf Pro that doesn't require you to "tap" a device on your belt before each shot.

I've used it to figure out stats and it does work well. I personally like the tap device but I haven't used the automatic device. My feeling with other auto tracking devices I have used is it doesn't always work like you suspect.

 

We also don't use it a lot anymore because it really only useful data if you not sure where losing strokes. If you know why already it really not needed.

Thanks for the reminder. I have Decade on my phone but never actually used it. LOL. Do you know if they charge an annual? Figured to just make a document on Google Sheets and track the stats for free.

If anyone is interested, I reached out to Game Golf and asked what stats where being tracked by the Game Golf Pro. They sent me a link to this video:

 

 

Appears to be the same stats they have tracked since at least 2014 (given the video date). FYI.

This why I would recommend buying the older version Save the money and play more tournaments or even a club well may it will not pay for a club but at least you save money.
