Early Morning or Late Afternoon Rounds?

If the greens are soaked with dew I really don't enjoy early morning golf and getting out at 5:45-7:00 a.m. just to get a round in doesn't have the appeal it used to have for me. Our group will generally tee off a little later in the morning, other things to do first thing on Saturdays and Sundays than worry about being first off, including a little warming up in my advancing years. Exception is usually the 4th of July if actually playing on the day, or if the course will be closed for an event later in the morning or the day, or if someone asks because that's when they need to go that particular day.

Weekends 10 a.m. -11:00 a.m. usually tee off, may play 18, often play more. Weekdays usually teeing off by 5:30 p.m.

My absolute favorite times to be out are evenings on a course that isn't busy. Happy to be with a group, but it's also my favorite time if by myself.

Saturday Sunday we are first off.... During the week I like to play 2:45 prior to sunset as I usually am on my own & can again get a quick 18, listen to podcasts and enjoy myself.

Started last year doing the first tee off too once during the week when possible & play 9 with the group and then usually off on my own on the back and again done in 2:30ish.... Back in the car and work calls and catching up before 10:00 am.....

I LOVE early mornings. But at nearly 50 i'm better for golf in the evenings when i've had a chance to loosen up.

To be fair evenings in the UK when the wind has died down quite often are a great time to be alive and play golf too........

My wife prefers to send me out on cold rainy days. Now that we have a 3 year old most sunny days are spent with her (as it should be). But, I now come to view rainy days as my golf days- lol! Bonus is I have great rain gear and the courses are usually pretty empty. So to conclude early or late is fine as long as it's raining- lol!

For me, it has got to be late afternoon although that said, evening is even better. Beauty of living in the North of Scotland is that in May, June and July we can easily be on the course until 10pm. Honestly there is something just awesome being out on the course at that time with the sun going down and everything becoming so peaceful, it is just absolute bliss.

The only provisio I would place on the above is when it comes to competitive golf. If I am going out with a card in my hand, getting out early is the best...unless it is a four round competition, then you need to be out late on the last day.

Late afternoons after work are the best. Early mornings are good too if its a weekend and I have nothing planned after. I play better later in the day, not a morning person.

I am a dew sweeper but I do prefer a late afternoon round because the course will play a little shorter and I don’t have to spend 10 minutes cleaning my golf shoes of clippings. Man I love golf.

I would take anything. Being a father of 4 pretty much makes me taking the early morning shift which works out well. Some of the course near where I live have to different course conditions with morning a late afternoon rounds. Usually the wind isnt as bad but you have the morning dew. Late afternoon is a dry but the wind has picked up. So still morning round so I can get my fix and be back to tend to the flock.

Can I say, both?!?!

Nothing like an early Saturday morning tee time driving the neighborhood before everyone is awake, crisp weather, smell of wet grass and watching the sunrise. Ready to get after it!

or;

Late afternoon round to decompress the soul and watch the sunset. I find these rounds to be the most relaxing and carefree.

In the summer do you prefer early morning or late afternoon rounds and why? For me I prefer late afternoon rounds because it gives me something to look forward to after work and there's nothing better than finishing your day off with a sunset on the course.

I'm a late afternoon guy myself. Nothing beats the golden hour on the course during the summer months

Almost all of my rounds are early morning. With a wife and daughter (who thankfully are not naturally early risers), playing early let's me get my golf fix in and still not feel like I'm neglecting my family duties.

I really miss the late afternoon rounds, though. As others have said, there is just something magical about finishing a round at dusk. Plus, nothing tastes quite like that first nice cold beer/mixed drink after the round. I'm not big on drinking when I play, as I find this game hard enough even when I have all my faculties!

Of course, in an ideal world, I'd play early, have a nice lunch, and the head back out in the late afternoon!

Like I stated previously in this thread, I'm an evening guy on the weekdays. However, that brought to mind the one time that it was annoying - a couple years ago, I went nuts, and shot 31, -5 (with a bogey on #4) on the front, but it was dark when I walked off the 9th green. I would've given anything to have been able to complete that round.
